fuel dripping from my airbox..

I had a hole in my tank that shot fuel all over the place. I lost about half a tank before I managed to get if off. When I filled the hole(which is now sealed and all ok) I put the tank back on. There is a tube that leads to the bottom of the airbox and when the base of the tank is switched to on it drips petrol.  When the tank is turnt off it stops. Could I have put the twi rubber fuel pipes the wrong way round? This didn't leak before the tank problem.. its not fuel in the airbox because it stops when I turn the tank off... any ideas??

there's no tube tht I know of that goes from the tank to the airbox.  Are you talking about the overflow tube from the airbox that drains out to the bottom of the bike?

i think that's what he's talking about.  At least thats the idea I got when I read it  :thumb:

if the problem didn't start until the tank hole problem, double-check your house routing.  Search the wiki and make sure you look at the one that says its the CORRECT routing, there are a few floating out there that are wrong.

there is also a overflow tube from the tank that drains out to the bottom of the bike as well.  I agree with Louie that you should check your hose routing and make sure everything is as it should be.

Well the routing hasn't been changed and it wasn't doing it before the tank flood. Yeah I'm on about the overflow from the airbox.. might have put the pipes onto the bottom of the tank the wrong way round. Just about to swap them over and see if that makes a difference.. fingers crossed!!

Ok.. when I was rushing to get the tank off last night my step dad put the tap to pri. Thus priming the carbs when I put the tank back on.. this was left on.. would that have caused the carbs to overflow?

The prime function will keep putting fuel into the carbs untill the float needle is shut by the floats once enough gas is in the carb bowls.  If you have fuel coming out of your airbox its because your carbs are overflowing and the excess fuel is draining into the airbox.  There are 2 main reasons why your carbs will overflow on prime:

1.) carb float heights set incorrectly
2.) float needle/valve are worn and not sealing correctly.

Now as far as why this would show up after fixing a hole in your tank, that I'm at a loss for.  Perhaps just leaving it on Prime for that long let a slow leak flood the carbs then leaked into the airbox?  I'd drain the carb float bowls, reprime the carbs, and check the float heights using the clear tube method on the wiki.  If everything checks out ok, maybe leaving it on prime that long is a bad idea.

Well its been an hour now and no leakage. Going to wait another hour then fire her up. Warm her up then leave her for another 2 hours and see. If still no leakage then I'm thinking problem solved??

Is the only thing you did was switch from prime to On/Res?

I disconnected the tank. Reattached the hoses. Turnt it to on. And it doesn't seem to be leaking.. weird I know but that's why I'm waiting.
