ok guys I have a question for all those out there that have upgraded to the airbox exhaust and rejet.  does it actualy give you any noticable power increase.  i have a 08 gs 500 I got to teach my wife to ride on she is doing very well and loves her bike.  but she wants just a little more power.  I have a 07 gsxr 1000 love both of these bikes to death.  i ride the 500 alot. she has talked about wanting to trade the 500 in on a sv but i love this little bike and we cant aford to trade it in at the momment.  so long story short i am going to do the katana wheel swap put pilot powers on it already did the katana shock swap and fork springs with 15w oil, and a 15 tooth front sprocket.  but i dont want to spend 700 bucks on exhaust and such if its just not worth it.  the little bike is pure joy to ride i dont want to get rid of it just need like 10 hp or so.

dont spend $700 on an exhaust, just buy a can off ebay for $70 or 80 bucks. that will do the job enough for the rejet and filter. I would imagine you would feel a difference with the sproket, filter, rejet, exhaust, and in handling with the shock, and kat wheel.
Current project:
Mmotos full body kit (YOU DONT WANT TO DO BUSINESS WITH THEM... READ MY THREAD BOOT STATE UPDATE)
K&N Lunchbox
Buddah's jets
CBR F2 rearsets
Ducati pass pegs (Modified)
Kat rear wheel
Carbon Fiber Exhaust Can, possibly shortened and relocated
And so on......

your bike will go from 42hp to 44.5 hp.... if it didn't make more noise....would your a$$-o-meter be able to tell the diff?

put a 20 buck 14T CS on it and ride it above 6k to 11k
it will be a different bike
ride mostly in 2-3-4
it will feel like more power

You want more power, get a different bike. There are plenty out there with far more power. Modding the crap out of the GS is basically an expensive effort with little result - you'd do far better to put that money into a more powerful bike from the get-go. Mostly they just get louder - getting 10% (much less 10 hp) more is fairly unusual.

Enjoy it for what it is.

Sell it and buy what it isn't if you want what it isn't.

If you don't buy new, you can probably afford to sell the GS and buy an SV or 600 GSXR (older than it is, of course) with the proceeds - especially if you don't go wasting money on modifying the GS first. If you trade in at the dealer on something new, you probably can't afford it.

Rejetting a stocker alone gives a little more power but makes a big difference in power delivery. $25 for the jets, 2 hrs labor. Give it a try first.

i dont really ride the bike for power.  like is said i have a gsxr1000 for that.  it doesnt have to compete with the gsxr just be a little quicker.  what would be involved and how much would it cost to pull 10 hp out of that motor.  i have read that you can ballance the motor and pull the counter ballancer and it will spin up much quicker.  can you put in a thinner head gasket.  for lol for crying out loud the motor is only like a 9 to 1 you can run regular gas in it.  would it destroy the motor to go to like 10 or 11 to 1

buy Roadserergals bike and install your frame and headlight/taillight

65+ hp

10 hp....
probably could get away with pipe/rejet/cams/decking.......

Hey Lancer, what happened with your GS500? I didn't buy a new exaust system, just a $30 pod filter and $2 main 140 jets, it sounds a little louder from the carbs, like a kittie, but had no flat spots at 6-7K like before, and the 15T front sprocket pulls a little harder, funnier to ride for cheap.
