oil filter cover...oil leak

I haven't had my bike out in over a year, however this spring I finally got around to getting it back on the road.   Before I put it away two falls ago I changed the oil.  Two out of the three  studs which hold the oil filter cover on started to strip.  I was hoping that I would be able to ride it for awile then fix it when I change the oil.  However, while riding it over the weekend I noticed that it has started to leak.  How hard is it to change these studs?  Has this ever happened to anyone?  Opinions and options would be appreciated.
