HeyGS'rs

Just finished installing me new clutch seal and am taking a trip from Jacksonville OR to Reno NV, any tips for a newbie long distance traveler. The furthest i have gone was 170 miles in a day. i also found some Cortech saddlebags found some at the local Motorcycle superstore for $115, good deal? more importantly good bags??

Go out and run that new seal around for a little bit just to make sure it's working.

If you feel like stopping, stop. Riding tired and / or numb is a great way to get hurt.

...therefore, try to avoid hard deadlines, especially those set before you have any idea what your average progress in a day really might be. If you schedule for 12 hour days and an average progress including stops of 50 miles an hour, you are going to be behind or unhappy fairly shortly, most likely.

Have good maps and take the interesting roads. Thudding over freeway expansion joints while trying not become the jam in a truck sandwich is something you have to do sometimes, but if you do that for the whole of a long trip, ugh, why ride at all? A good road can be a mini-destination along your way.

Have bike towing? There are other options - the one I know about because I've used it is AAA+RV - a bit odd to lumped in with the motorhomes, but it means you get (or are supposed to get) roadside assistance and/or a proper tow truck. Not too expensive, brings a little peace of mind.

Spare parts? A few lightbulbs, a couple of new sparkplugs, some hose clamps, a spare master link...
