I have an 89' GS and have aquestion about clip ons. I know many of the member would love to have these type of bars. I myself would like my body position a little more vertical. I have seen a few pics of other bikes with taller (for lack of a better term) risers. Does anyone know where I can get a set of them, or any info about them. Are they even specificaly for a GS? Please help.

If you convert to a standard handlebar, you can use the gen-mar risers to add 1" rise and 1 3/8" pullback from the stock location: gen-mar risers at azmotorsports.  You can also get handlebars with a less sporty bend (which looks better imo and costs a lot less).  I'm not aware of risers compatible with the 89 clip-ons, but someone else may have more info.  Most of the standard clip-on riser options/replacements (e.g.: nt650 clipons) won't work due to the unusual attachment points.

You could have a machine shop create some replacement handlebar holder brakets that include some rise for you, but I think switching to bars is a simpler option.

seems there must be gen-mar risers for clip on bars too. I dont know where you could start to look for them though...sorry.

All clip on's (except the GS of course) are things that drop on top of the top triple. The GS is a side fit. Screwed again ...cant use a sandwich plate as a spacer and lift up... Thanks Suzuki... But the answer is to use higher rise euro mounting posts...that rise up 2 inches over the stock 89 ...but the bars themselves are different and the cables, wires etc on a 89 wont reach the higer rise or tubular bars that are higher and wider. So screwed again... Cant you tell I have a love hate relationship with the bloody thing... Love the position of the 89's hate everything else about it. The best choice is to have a 90+ with SM style bars fitted on it. Nothing else works. The 89 wont accept the later ones that easy...cables and wires are a PITA. Anyway...we still need 25 though.
Cool.

Check out this link and you will notice the top bar mounting plate on most GS500 sold in the US.

You can just replace the top plate and get a new set of bars and you are good to go.

If you print out this image from the link and go to your local motorcycle salvage yard and show them the items you need.

1x item #2 holder lower
2x item #3 holder upper
4x item #4 bolts

You can use your stock bolts #7, #8, #9 and #10

You should be set.

I used a set of motorcross bars on my GS500 that cost me about $20 new from the dealer.

After you get the items above you should be able to sell your stock stuff on eBay for around $75 or more.  I sold a stock 89 setup for around $80 or so.
