Sitting in my apartment just now, I was browsing the forums... While reading and looking over ideas for my little GS I hear a noise that sounded like my cat had knocked something over... A few minutes go by, and my doorbell rings, I hear the girl say is Kevin here? I walk out and its my neighbors, I look down the stairs and my poor bike is laying on its side... So I asked the kid to help me lift it back over. The fairing is a little scratched, the clutch lever is bent pretty bad, and the engine cover is scratched... :( I wasnt gonna submit a claim at first, but I ran back down and got her info, she was shaking and real nervous, apologized and gave me the info.. I submitted a claim with geico, hopefully they fix it

That sucks.

Had something similar happen to me a few years ago. Neighbors knock on my door one night and tell me that someone had hit my car and they had witnessed the incident. The entire passenger side of the car was damaged due to having been repeatedly side swiped. Turns out the girl who did it had just gotten her license, had pulled in too close to my car in the parking lot, and kept hitting it over and over while trying to pull back out.

The neighbors called the cops and they went to the apartment of the girl's family. The Dad totally denies that it happened (in front of 10 witnesses) until the cops threaten to arrest him while showing him my car's green paint on his daughter's new car.

At least she stopped and gave her info. Twice in a year my bike was knocked over. First time killled my fairing my neighbors have done close to $1500 of damage and never a note. So, be happy about the information and your baby will be back to new soon!

While its very annoying, at least the person had the decency to take responsibility for their mistake.

Dont think twice about filing claims with the insurance companies. You pay them to shell out when need be.

In 06 on the 4th of july some genius backed over the GS with an suv ... while in the parking lot at autozone.

I had just bought the GS too from jetswing's friend Mark and it had been on the ground barely 4 hours ... after been DOA for a few months, then in my truck as I cleaned the carbs while driving back form his place in Blacksburg. Yea, like it was hiding in fear of that ... Insurance paid me big $$ and I sold it for about that same $ ... booya ... light scratches on the pipe and some minor scratches ... That's all, I was in the autozone ... so I didn't get hit either.

The gecko now has to give you $$$, please get it on tape and put it on fleatube.

Cool.

I lived at a complex here in Tallahassee a few years ago...this guy had a NICE gixxer 1k, and he babied that bike.  Neighbor is backing his Jeep Cherokee out one day and hits it, knocks it over.  I'm walking up the steps to my apartment and see this plain as day.  The guy gets out of his jeep, looks at the gixxer, stands it back up, and starts to drive off.  I'm like "um, dude, you'd better report that."  He says "Why, it didn't do any damage."

Um,  :bs: .  Not a good idea to pull a hit and run in front of a cop.

So at any rate, I see the owner later and ask him about it...cracked fairings, bent brake lever, broke the front fluid reservoir, among others...his insurance estimated it at about $5k in damage.

"Why, it didn't do any damage."   :2guns:

At least she was nice enough to let you know.  Look on the bright side, if your insurance won't fix your fairing then you can try riding naked.

So I used to have a different insurer for my bike than my car.  One day I ran over my own bike.   :cookoo:  Well, it's more like I pulled into my parking spot with the bike at the top of it, and pulled in a little too far.  Tapped the gs, and knocked it over.  So who do I sue in that case?  My car insurance company or the bike insurance? :D
No GS yet......waiting for friend to give it back......

So I filed the claim, she accepted full responsibility... Now I need to ask the board members, ANYONE IN AZ know of a shop I can take my GS to so I can get  an estimate on the fairings, and any other possible damages?

I'd be totally insane with rage if my bike had been knocked-over/run-over like all you guys have experienced! >:(

I just don't trust parking bays at stores, etc, I just roll the bike right up on the path/sidewalk outside the store like a bicycle.  I know you can't do that absolutely everywhere, but you've just go to try and out-wit the cretins out there (contradiction in terms I know as they are witless cretins).

Some things you just can't avoid, though.  At my work place a couple of years ago, this chap had just taken delivery of this Chrysler thing (the one that looks a bit like one of those old American cars Humphrey Bogart used to drive in those 40s movies).  There was this almighty smashing and crashing sound outside the building.  By the time we had all rushed to the window it was already over.  The poor guy, who had a slight physical disability, had stepped on the gas instead of the brake and nearly totalled about 4 cars!!! :o

All the car owners were very good how they reacted.  If it had been my car or bike I would have gone inappropriately verbally apeshit and then regretted it immediately.  I am always a little concerned now when parking my bike at work...

When I was buying Flick at the dealership there was this blonde woman I guess dropping her man off to get his bike.  Well, She backed out at the wrong angle in her big a$$ SUV and hit the row of motorcycles! >:( If memory serves me correct Three decked out Busas went over, 6 gixxers, 2 honda Shadows, and a B-King! The estimate was $40,000 in damages. Now, that is a bad day!  You should have seen the look on all of the employees faces! But, they had some great sales on scratch N dent bikes! They don't put the bikes so close now!

BTW Flick didn't get hurt that's all that matters!

Stupid people!

I've learned to put things in perspective.  I've seen way too much death and destruction in this world to get mad when my bike falls/gets knock/gets hit.  If no one gets hurt or killed then having my bike knocked over is only an inconvenience.

I hear you on that Pork Chop. But, it still pisses me off when I put all of my blood sweat and yeah many tears (led signals) for some A$$hat to come along and knock it over and destroy it. I have vowed that the next time my bike goes down I'm searching each car in the complex and if I find matching paint. I'm getting the Louisville slugger out and let them know how it feels to have their pride and joy smashed up! I'm sick of it twice in one year that is total  :bs:. They knew they did damage because they put my broken mirror on my gas tank! Not to mention the four foot hole in my vert now that wasn't an accident.

God help them if I ever catch someone messing up my property! They will think twice when they see somone else's property.

Ouch dominoes with bikes. It's comical when you see it on the movie screen but I'd hate to ever be the one that started the domino effect at a biker bar.

When I first saw this thread I thought, "Oh, no, Mary!  Not AGAIN!"

Glad it wasn't you this time!

Having said that, it's good to hear of someone owning-up for once.

It was also said not to hesitate to call the insurance company, that's why we pay.  That's true, but also not true.  In this case it's an obvious yes, but not always.  If you damage your own bike or car, as in the story told by Merritt, you're better off paying for the damage yourself and not reporting it, especially if the damage isn't very expensive.  All incidents with any of your vehicles go on what's called a clue report along with any and all traffic infractions.  Even incidences and violations of spouses and your children go on that report, even towing if you have it on your policy.  All incidences go on that report for you and your family, whether it was your fault or not, or whether or not you were even involved.

If that report has too many incidences on it, and insurance companies won't say how many that is, your rates go up by about 40% and take several years to ease back down, or they may drop you entirely.  Also, if you have many bike incidences (Mary)  :kiss3:  and they decide to jack you, your car insurance goes up too if you have the same company, so think twice about filing claims.
