What do you think?

Ok, so I am full into this bike and what I am going to do with it.  For sure it will have Buell Lightning heads, Ducati or Buell turns, Ducati Monster seat and cowling, 89 Clip-ons, CRG billet folders, Ducati or Buell tail light, and probably the black version of what you see below.  Basically I am in a quandary though.  This bike is in fantastic condition.  I love how it looks in it's post-80's retro paint scheme.  I am never of the mind to leave things alone.  But,......do any of you think I should leave it alone and just get another project bike?  I never would have believed it but there is an identical bike in worse shape about 80 feet up the street from where I live.

I guess what I am trying to say is should I leave this one alone and get another bike or just do what I want because, well, I want to, lol.  I love modding things and this would be cool to do what I wan to do.  I would love any insight please.

Oh, and here is the now look with some paint tries.  I am no way near good enough to add parts in PS so this is it.  Tell me what you think.

I am thinking flat black frame, gloss black engine and wheels.  Either a dark silver or gray for the tank and bodywork.

I like both the white and the black ones.  I used to have a red one like yours that was in much worse shape.

I prefer the black one compared to the white one but the white one would be more unique i think.  As far as getting a second project bike it is a matter of how much time you want to spend riding.  If you want to be riding it all the time then it makes it harder to do the modding.  If you have the money to buy the other bike i would buy it and make it a project bike and then once you get the project bike finished you could always sell the one you have now to someone.  It looks to be in excellent condition for the age of the bike so you would be able to get enough money from it to get the next project bike and start the whole process all over again.

Somebody has to do a black frame with that cherry red from the tail. The tank looks to be a little brighter of a red but that dark, almost blood red would look great. A candy apple red with a coat of black would look pretty sick as well. Are you gonna rattle can this job or are you gonna borrow a pot sprayer or what?

I think you would regret white. Every speck of dirt will show on it. Have to wash it every other ride.

Probably pot spray it all with a good gun and compressor.

Thanks for the feedback guys.  I am digging the black as well.  I really actually like the red as it is right now but I have a modding problem like many of us here.  If it has an engine and can be changed I change it.

As for modding, yes, it will all be over the winter I suppose.  I am gathering parts now though.  I definitely do not want to tear her apart now as I have only been riding about a month.  just making plans for some fun over the cold days.

Why dont you leave the frame silver. paint the tank, tail, fender and wheels a gunmetal grey. With maybe a small brighter silver graphic. Nothing too big. I bet that would look nice

I agree with your reservations.  Your bike is cherry-berry all original.  I think it's in too good shape to mess with.  Get the rat bike down the street and go to town!  That way you'll have something to ride while you work on your project.  :thumb:
