Pre-2001 vs newer magneto covers & gaskets

I've been looking for a magneto cover for my 97 GS500.  I found some covers from 04 and 05 for sale.  To double check to see if they fit, I went to bike bandit to compare the part numbers.  The part numbers for the magneto covers are the same for 97 vs 04 (476910-001), but the part number for the 05 (7239969-001)  is different.   All the gaskets are different; 97(477682-001), 04 (3100671-001), and 05 (7208065-001).

Am I able to use the 04 magneto cover on my 97 but not the 05?

Whats up with the gaskets?  Did they change from year to year?

We may have elected a black president, but they aren't going to write a part number - Blk for black and - Gry for grey. Color is everything ... muhahahahahaha ... just not the way you think it is.
