Tiny Chinese Mirrors (Review)

So, I looked around to find some replacement mirrors on Ebay. I came across quite a few styles but I new I wanted something really small. Lots of people have done the bar end mirrors and such and I seriously thought about doing the same but decided to go back with standard mirrors instead.

So after much consideration, I bought these mirrors on Ebay for abou $28. Shipped from China they were here in about 6 days. They are a little on the cheap side. They are a cast metal (maybe aluminum) and have a plastic mirror housing that is painted in carbon fiber style. They came with 8 and 10mm bolts (one of which was not completely cut out for the allen wrench to fit. Good thing they included a spare.) They are also painted flat black (maybe powder coated but looks more like thick heat / baked on paint.)

All in all, not a terrible mirror but they are really small and I like that. I'll add more pics once I get them mounted. It is going to take some getting used to for that tiny mirror.  :icon_eek:

They look cool, although I hate fake painted carbon fiber. The last mirrors I had were also painted that way(not sure which segment of consumers it is that's really buying all of this stuff), and were supposed to have the turn signals in the mirrors, although they didn't work.

Make sure you get us some pictures of the mirrors on the bike, it's hard to tell how they'd look just looking at them. Do they stick out far enough to see around your elbows? Plus after seeing the picture by your name, I'd really like to get a better look at that paint job, it looks like it's a pearly red, is that so?

I'm going to be looking for some new mirrors once I get around to some more important things. The bike is going to spend half of it's time on the back patio, and half of it's time in the basement, and I thought I was set getting the bike in and out of the basement door, until I put the mirrors on, and remembered that mirrors are usually wider than the actual handlebars, so I need to either find something skinnier, or find some bar end mirrors that actually fold in. The only reason I didn't get the bar end mirrors to begin with is because I'm sure Heather will drop the bike at a stop sign or two before she gets used to riding it again, and the normal mirrors have a better chance of surviving a low speed tip over than the bar end mirrors do.

Not my cup of tea...  I use my mirrors ALL the time (mainly when passing a hot girl on the street, and I wanna look at her backside without risking an accident.  :D) and those are way too small for me.

I am actually waiting on a new brake MC bracket (for the right side) so that I can mount the right mirror. That part had been broken by the previous owner and I had ground it flat thinking I was going to use bar ends. (Which I still may eventually do.)

I'll send you a couple of pictures of the tank if you shoot me your email. I painted it from a rattle can using the Duplicolor Metal Flake red you find at autozone. I didn't spend a tremendous amount of time prepping the tank so there are some spots that I know are there but others might never see it. I used the same brand of clear coat over the top and that's where the shine / depth really came out.

Mmm, that's what I like on the street - decreased visual field.

hahaha +1 sir, same here!

well seriously, i'd just be concerned if i get a good view all the way around. a couple months ago some punk broke off one of my stock mirrors so i replaced them with an ebay pair. these are shorter and i just see my shoulders and arms. i kinda got used to moving my arms out of the way when looking in my mirrors, but still annoying. i think i may replace them sometime in the future.

cheers,

How's the paint holding up? Mine's probably going to get a re-paint this winter. It's just flat black spray paint at the moment. It'll probably stay black, but maybe glossy this time. If I feel like going crazy it may get a racing stripe or something. I'd like to find one of the newer GS tanks, which would be a good time for a full bike repaint. I've also got the compressor, so I'd like to find a good paint gun and learn how to actually paint things right, althought I HATE prepwork. I usually just rough up the top coat of things with sandpaper and use that as a base, and I never feel up to sanding between coats, so it may be a lost cause to get a nice paint gun and some real paint anyway.
