This topic comes up ad nauseum, so I'd recommend doing a search.  Consensus appears to be: Don't replace motor oil with cod liver oil because it has friction modifiers.  But honestly, you can use any MC oil or Rotella truck oil.  Just watch out for those friction modifiers (i.e., in car oils) because they *may* contribute to clutch slippage.

True True Estaban, I think it is worth noting here though for him, it is UNANIMOUS do not use synthetic!

I was just trying to get a list together and try to make it a sticky so that it can be useful to new people. I did do a search but didn't find a post that has just a list of what people have used. Many people might not have access to the oil that people use, with the list it might give them a alternative.

Oh, and I use whatever is on sale in Wal-Mart at the time. Of course, I've only changed my oil once...

I just used a 4-liter container of Castrol 10w-40 motorcycle oil I found at pepboys. If people have a hard time finding any special oil anywhere else, the popboys option sounds like it should be pretty easy to find. White container with red and green print, and it wasn't with the normal oil, they have a little end cap section with all kinds of motorcycle stuff in the back corner. Just happened to be right next to all the oil pan crush washers, which I NEVER would have found if I hadn't randomly decided to go see if there was anything good on the motorcycle shelf.

I use Castrol R4 Superbike in my race bikes, but regular Castrol Actevo in the big super-saver jugs at Cycle Gear for the streetbikes.  I've used car Mobil1 in my street GSs in the past when I couldn't get moto oil, and it worked just fine. :p

Shell Rotella 15w-40, I've tried Mobil Delvac 1300 15w-40 but that stuff is crap in my bike, worst shifting I ever felt and it got worse in only 1000 miles. It was notchy, hard to shift, impossible to find real neutral and false neutrals all over the place. Delvac felt like I put 15,000 miles on Rotella in only 1000. So far my favorites are Rotella 15w-40, and Rotella synthetic (though I get increased oil consumption with it) and walmart brand 10w40 high mileage oil.

My bike runs so hot here in FL, that the front fender is melted by the
crossover pipe. the Bike came from Daytona so Im pretty sure it spent
a lot of time idling in insane FL traffic. Anyone run a straight 30wt or
heavier cuz of the heat ?
