Parking

Tonight they are repaving my building's parking lot at the university.  So... I bring my bike back from running a couple of errands and the Parking Services guy goes and tells me to put my bike in the huge (and unsafe) lot nearby.  That wasn't going to do, so I said   :nana:  went around to the closest approach to the lot, shut the bike off, and walked my bike through the closed lot to my 'parking spot' next to the building (and off the pavement!)

I hope the parking guy doesn't notice and ticket my bike!   We aren't officially supposed to park motorcycles on pedestrian pathways (even out of the way) or anyplace not designated as a spot, but they generally ignore that.

There isn't any dedicated parking for motorcycles at school, and putting it in an actual spot is a recipe to get your bike knocked over by someone wanting a spot, or vandalized, since there isn't enough parking.  By riding the bike to school, I save gas and parking spaces

Do any of you have problems finding a spot to put your bike at school or work?

I don't, but an interesting note as I drove by DeAnza J.C. yesterday, I noticed there are trees on little dirt hills about the campus, and I was thinking if I was attending classes there I'd just get me a KLR250 in that forest green that Kawasaki is producing them in and hide it in the trees.

When parking in car spots I usually park as far back as possibe so that a potential parking spot jacker will see the rear end of my bike before they commit to a full parking lot-speed run into the parking spot. You know what I'm talkin' about...the crank the steering wheel hard right like you're landing a jet on an aircraft carrier, romping on the brakes for that arrester-hook landing stop. That's also why I put red reflective tape on the back of the bike.

yeah, there is a place I always used to park on the sidewalk under a concrete bridge (so partially covered) and with huge metal piping on both sides of each column supporting the bridge which was obviously put there to chain up bikes for school commuters.... (duh...) anyway, i pulled up a few weeks ago around 10AM and the traffic cop was handing out $115 tickets for parking on the sidewalk (there are usually about 15 bikes parked there on any given day, some permanently, some on a daily basis..) anyway, the cop says that its bicycle parking only!!!  :x
don't get me wrong, i love bicycles too (i've got 3), but they have so much damn parking anyway in those bike racks... this was definitely designed as motorcycle parking... its like a damn trap to get bikes to park there and then: BAMM you're out 115 bucks!!
so now I park on the street like the cages and... guess what... this morning i get to my bike and think "something's not right", then when I have a closer look at the bars i realize that it definitely went down. Somebody knocked my bike over, picked it back up and pretended like it never happened.... :x  :x  :x well, at least they didnt leave it down i guess..... anyway sorry for the long winded post, but parking really pisses me off....

My campus is pretty good about parking. There are distinct motorcycle parking areas near all the buildings except for one. Just have to stay away from the firelane, or the fire marshal will ticket you. Other then that I coast up nd walk just about nothing to get to each class. ONLY thing that gets on my nerves are when people put their cars in the bike spots. One time right after i pulled up theses 2  girls pull in next to me and almost block me in then shoot me a dirty look, like what are YOU doing?!?  :nana: sheesh.

Where I work there is a specific spot that is designated for motorcycles.  I usually put a cone up when I leave that has a piece of paper that says "Reserved Motorcycles" on it, but some people think they are pulling a quick one if they move the cone :o .  It is really aggrivating to pull in the driveway and see someone in our  (as in motorcyclists, even though I'm the only one) spot :guns: .  It ticks me off 'cause I know that I have to pull all the way around to the back of the building and walk through 1/4 mile of parking lot to get to the front doors :x .  One time I just parked on the sidewalk next to the front doors, but got yelled at.

Contact the campus to set up motorcycle parking.

When I worked at Disney in Orlando riding was sweet. 50 thousand employees between all the Orlando parks. So as you can guess the employees have to park in BFE and walk. No monorails for the staff. It is so bad that Disney automaticly pays its hourly employees for an extra fifteen minutes a day because of the mandatory hikes from hell. They used to get a half an hour but the union sucks. At least they always had motorcycle spots right up front. It made taking the cage even more dreaded.
Don't get me started on parking in Cali

Here at Penn State the construction is so rampant that half of our parking lots are shut-down or getting built over  :x

What really sucks is that there are motorcycle spaces right next to many of the academic buildings, but they are all designated 'staff' spaces.  there's room for about 10 bikes in each bike area and I've never seen more than 3 or 4 in each... even in the middle of the day.   Still, i know if I parked there just once I would surely get dinged.  Parking Services is having a field-day with the construction.  They've probably funded themselves for the next 5 years just writing tickets this past month   .  Everybody's confused and parking where the University says they shouldn't. :o  :x

So I just park downtown and walk into campus.  What else can I do?  :nana:

Where i go to school there are designated parking spots but only 4-6 bikes can fit at a time.  I live in texas where there really isn't a time to ride and those spots are packed.  They are right by all of the buildings too.  I love riding my bike to school because in order to get a good parking spot you have to be to school by 6:00am or else you get a crappy spot, not to mention the extremely large amounts of staff parking spots not being used :x

ok-
What in the F$#* is w/ all the "staff" parking on a college campus?!?!

At work we have a designated motorcycle area on the first floor of the garage that is blocked off with those concrete wheel stops so the cages can't park there.  :thumb: There is space for about 6 bikes and another area next to it that gets used when the first area is full (it's a little harder to get in to.

When I was at school, (U of H) I didn't have a bike, but I figured out that I could join the Alumni Org and get a yearly Alumni Parking pass that was overall cheaper than two semesters of student parking. They're less likely to ticket what they think is an Alumni, no grades to hold.   :)

Heh, I hold a 'Faculty/Staff' permit since I work for the university as a graduate student.  It's nice to have, especially when you might be in school until after midnight (nearest 'commuter' parking is a 20 minute walk from the building)  Unfortunately, everyone and their mother has these permits as well, undergrads take chances and steal spaces, and there might not be any of the 1000+ spaces left after 9-10 am.  So having a nifty parking pass does me absolutely nothing cause there are no spaces to begin with!
