Anyhow John, thats not what i want..lol.. im not talking stunting like 60mph wheelies.. i mean like slow stuff.. endoes, wheelies, and basically circles... doing cool stuff in a parking lot or something.. nothing really serious.. maybe i sent the wrong idea out...

the slow stuff is the hard stuff

Quoteher? hmmm now i feel bad. But still it did make me mad about the 'seemed intelligent' remark.. that stuff shouldnt be said.

Actually, I was referring to the bike...but anyway

QuoteHow do you feel about stitches, plaster casts, and high insurance premiums?

Need something to do with your time..??..volunteer at a rehab clinic for a while, then decide if you really want to do this.

And you seemed so intelligent....

He did say it wasn't going to be on the streets. As far as the stitches and such...the same could be said about riding period. We'd all be much safer in a big SUV, but we still ride. Why? Cuz it's FUN!  :thumb:

Goin down is goin down...you just avoid being run over if you're off a public street.

Totally agree...and I push riding pretty far sometimes.  Riding and stunting are, however,  two very different things.

why the hell would you insure a bike that is just going to be used for stunting

I was thinking of what an unfortuinate set of events could ultimately do to medical coverage.

This is clearly a personal decision about risk tolerance.  There's really no wrong or right, and I do respect all who disagree with me.  Stunting just wouldn't be my choice.

Who on the board has the quote that goes something like: "experience is what you get right after you need it"..??  OK.  Good luck if you still decide to go for it.

I think you should go for it..     I will have to admit that slow tricks and stunts are definately a little harder than fast wheelies and sliding endos, but..  they look a lot cooler, and once you perfect them, that's when you finally learn how to actually stunt ride.

I've got more scars from stupid mistakes, such as pulling a wheelie on a 1981 Yamaha Virago 920RH while going down a side street and not noticing the extrememely large pothole..  And.. I've also flipped my old 1991 GS500e end over end while doing a burnout in a blacktopped parking lot..  the kind that's usually slick enought to do doughnuts in a car in the middle of summertime..   I somehow rolled too far forward and caught a warm spot, that was warm enough to hold the tire and spring the bike right up and over..   Luckily..  the bike did land on me, but ever since then.. I've never put so many keys on my bikes key chain..

Stunting the GS would require not too many mods and they're fairly simple to boot..

Switch to solid pegs,  front and rear (you'll like having solid rear pegs for riding wheelies in circles.

Swap to a double disk front end.. (It's a lot easier to do endos, especially where you're at 75 degrees and you're worried about the pads slipping either way)..

But Frame sliders and put 2 on each side with a good set of barrends..
A friend of mine actually drilled holes in his rear fairings and mounted the frame sliders right to the rear subframe right through the farings.. and.. actually they looked pretty trick.

Invest in the engine guards..  well worth every penny..

Eliminate any misc plastic pieces (turn signals, mirros, front fender, tailight, rear plastic inner fender)

Secure the tailpieces with small zip ties with no bolts or screws..  This way if you do take a really nasty spill they will most likely rip off rather than stay on for the slide and destroy themselves..

And also..  have someone beef up the steering locks from turn to turn..  elminate the ignition switch, headlight, left side plastic controls from the handlebars, and if you're really inclined.. invest in a set of dirt bike or atv style handle bars with a cross support..   they hold up better in crashes..   and also.. buy a case saver or make one for the inside of the front sprocket..  just an insurance in case you have the chain fall off..

I highly recommend moving the rear wheel as far forward as possible..  usually you can knock out two links from a stock chain if you adjust it all the way..

Also..  remove the side stand and the centerstand..   Swap to a set of K&N Pod Filter with a remote breather..

Stick with a sealed battery.

Mount a tether kill switch, and if you're really gung ho.. mount a fuel catch can..

Also.. figure out a way to keep the tach mounted, but elimate the speedo..   Just as a safety measure  This way you don't go blowing your engine all the time..and also.. install an oil cooler, you wouldn't believe the difference the $60 in parts makes in the color of your oil, and the durability of it...

Now.. I'm not suggesting that you use any or all of this information, but.  from my experience in helping my friend hammer the crap out of his 54,000 mile gs..  This is just a posting of info just incase you decide to go that route..

If I ever my digital camera fixed.. I'll take pictures next time I go visit..

Hope that it's something useful.

Bill

P.S.  another thing highly recommended.. if you're planning on doing a lot of endos,  make sure you stick with really sticky rubber up front..
And this is what we end up with..  yay.!!

Don't stunt it. Race it. Or at least do track days with it, since pretty much the only place you can race 'em is in Minnesota, and it looks like our days are numbered here.

But the GS makes a fun track bike.

Thats how i learned how to ride bro,..

In fact, i have a CR125.. but its a totally different animal.. Different powerbands by far.. and different geometry etc.. VERY OPPOSITE the gs.. but i did think about using it to practice a bit..

Do track days witht he GS. Stunting is cool, but there arnt the same kind of thrills that you can get by carving up a track... at least thats my opinion.
The GS can be made into such a great track bike, relativley easily. Go beat down some big bikes through the twisties.

BillWheelerJr makes one hell of an argument. I retract my earlier stament regarding track days. Stunt that thing.

Wondering what ever happened with your GS..  did you end up stunting it or just modding it for track days..

Let me know.
