problem with my valve check today

so I checked my valves today, the exhausts were at .047  and .051.  the intakes I couldnt get my thinnest feeler under, which was a .038  so I was under the impression I could just go one step down, and be ok.  but judging by the responses to joshr08, it seems I need to pull the stock shims, measure them, and then order some?  my valve tool should be coming off ebay some time next week, so what can I do until then?

I'm sure either way will work.  Besides if you're lucky you can trade them at your dealership for free.  If it doesn't give you the right clearance you can trade back.

You can trade if your local dealership doesn't suck!  Mine doesn't have a kit.  So when the poor sap who recently bought a GS500 takes it into the shop for it's 4000 mile valve check, it'll be sitting in the there for 2 weeks while they wait for shims (supposing it will need any).

well, my tool came in today, hopefully I'll have time to get the 2 shims out and check them

of course, they have every size except the ones I needed, 2.5.  anyone have 2? I will be making a wanted post for them too
