Gen Mar bar raisers

Has anyone installed a Gen Mar bar raiser on the GS500 E.  Do you like it?  Did it require relocation/modification of wires and/or cables?  The web site says minor relocation of wires/cables may be needed.  I looked at my bike and the wiring harness from the starter switch housing looks particularly short.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you,

I put the first set of GenMar risers on a GS on my 97 GS about 4 years ago.  They didn't list them for the GS till I tried them. After I tried them, GenMar listed them for the GS.

There was enough wire in the headlight housing to pull out and put them back up to the handlebars with the ties for a neat job.  The brake hose from the master cylinder to the front wheel is just long enough but has to be pulled put of the center brkt and the rubber gromet on it moved a bit.  It was necessary to relocate the choke cable behind the left fork leg instead of around in front of it.  Would pull cable and rev up engine when steering was turned full right in parking.

I recently put the same GenMars on my 02 GS.  Wiring was no problem.  Had same problem with the brake cable, but no problem with the choke cable.  The GenMars make the GS500's just right for me.  Wouldn't leave home without them.   :lol:  :lol:  :lol:

I just installed them on my '96 GS 2 weeks ago without any problems. Cables, etc. were long enough.

Why risers are so expensive I'll never know, but they work as advertised: more upright position; takes pressure off wrists (especially good for long commutes or trips).

I also found out it gives my keys extra room to finally hang free without jingling over the handlebar or getting stuck under the handlebar.

i have a question about these for anyone who has clubman bars.  do i need to get the risers with the 1'"up and 1 3/8" back for the clubman bars to clear the triple tree, or will the plain 1" up and no offset ones work?

I would like to thank all of you for the information about the bar risers.

I am 50 years old and 4 months ago I messed up and crashed my bike going into a turn.  I am still suffering shoulder pain and I need to get some weight off of that arm.

The GS500 is my first bike and I am very pleased that I started out with it.

If I can get the bars raised up and get some progressive springs in the forks I will be very happy with its performance. ( at 6' 1" and 225 lbs. the front end definitely bottoms out when braking hard!  I am not the type of guy that replaces parts if they work well, but the new springs will be worth the expense.)  

I do not know what it is like to ride a bike with subsantially more horsepower than the GS500, so I think I will do myself a favor and not test ride any bigger bikes. I do not want to get spoiled.

My bike is the 2002 black model and I really like its appearance. Once I get the two above problems addressed I will also be very pleased with its performance.
