Power loss at 5k rpm

Hi everyone!

I recently purchased a 94 GS500 with 5k miles on it for my wifes first bike.  Its a blast to ride, I must say!  Just yesterday I took it out for a spin to put some gas in it and noticed a peculiar issue.

Accelerating out of my driveway in first gear there was a loss of power when the bike hit 5k rpm.  It didnt die, but just stopped accelerating reguardless of me being on the throttle.  After about 2-3 seconds, the bike came back to life and continued to rev without an issue.  I was able to continually repeat the loss of power, and it was always around 5k to 5.5k rpms.

This is my first older bike and my first carb'd bike as well.  I'm not afraid of getting my hands dirty, I'm just looking to be pointed in hopefully the right direction before I start tearing things apart!  So please, point away!

Guess I'll start pulling apart the carbs.

That's an exact duplicate of the story I posted when I bought my wife's GS. It accelerated fine until I hit 5k rpm, and then just sputtered up to 6k, then rode fine again. I think all it really took was a good carb cleaning. I didn't notice anything particularly wrong with them, but the cleaning helped. I also replaced all of my fuel lines, but I don't know if that did much.
