I keep an eye on ebay for these... why? because if i had the cash I would buy this just to have ready for when mine has issues. I hope that one of you can benefit from it.

I'm assuming you mean 89-00? Is it one of the earlier boxy styles? I can't see it while I'm at work. There's one of the newer tanks on ebay, I already call dibs on the newer one! unless it goes over $100, then any of you guys can have it.

They are prone to rusting. I don't know if the newer models are as bad.

And denting, especially because the GS500 is considered a beginner bike by so many people, newbie tip overs aren't terribly uncommon. Fixing rust isn't too hard, well it's a hassle, but not as much of a hassle as having a new tank shipped, and hoping it isn't rusty when you get it, even if it's clean in the pictures. I need a new one because mine is dented on both sides, and since I replaced the seat, and the new one doesn't have that lip in the front for padding, it kills the inside of my thighs where they press into the corners on the back. The newer tank looks much smoother.

geez. rough croud. yea 89-00. An not tank breaking, just the denting and rusting through. Most for sale are in rough shape so a new one of this vintage is rare as far as i am concerned.
