Race bike converted back to street duty... and where'd that light go?

My 92 GS500E has been retired from the track, with my current skill I can't ride it hard enough to be competitive against the EX500s, that 10hp deficit is just too much for me to make up right now on skill alone.  But it's not being retired completely, as my wife is getting her license!  :woohoo:

I just finished doing most of the conversion work to get it street worthy again.  Standard rear-sets, nice 'european bend' bars, side stand, and all the lil safety things I defeated before restored.  While putting the front back together I noticed a pair of wires in the bucket with nothing to go to.  Looking at the wiring diagram they are for a 'side indicator light' which I'm assuming translates to 'parking light'.  I can't find any spot for such a light, so is this a vestigial leftover from it's European / JDM counterparts, or have I forgotten something?

Also, looks like my turn signal indicator bulb is DOA.  Is that a standard bulb I can find at NAPA/Autozone/etc or do I need to order it from Suzuki?

This lil bike is a blast on the street, my track gearing is foolishly short (60mph in 6th is just under 6k RPM) but it's fun rowing it up and down the gearbox in town without breaking any laws.  I've made my wife promise that when she's ready to get something else, I get the lil GS back.

Mine's not apart at the moment to check, but I seem to remember there being some extra plugs in the bucket that weren't being used. Did you try turning the bike on and see if there was anything not working?

Buddha, do you happen to remember any of the model numbers for any brand of the indicator lights? Twice now I've gone to auto part stores and looked through all the bulbs one by one, and have had a hard time finding a match. I know they're 12v 1.7w and 12v 3.4w, but it'd help if anyone know the model number from Sylvania or any other company. I ended up ordering some from bikebandit, but it'd still be cool to know. I also had an impossible time finding replacement bulbs for my aftermarket turn signals, they're the little orange ones that actually have the round base, not the wedge, and the bulb with more of a cylinder with a point, not the round light bulb like in a house lamp. Anyone ever see those around autopart stores? I ended up just buying new turn signals online. It cost the same as buying new bulbs.

Kurlon.... What kinda rearsets did you have on your GS? were they just F2/F3s made to fit?

Kurlon

Walmart had 'W5W' that were the right size, but 5w.

Went to Autozone instead and picked up a pair of Sylvania 161 bulbs, 2.7w each, much closer to stock.

Everything works on the bike, and as it turns out, despite the keyring having a mark for a park position, the tumbler doesn't go there, so that explains the lack of a parking light.  Must be a euro only thing.

I was running Woodcraft rearsets.  When I get the bike back in a year or so, they're going back on along with my clipons so I can play hooligan on it. : )

Is there any real pro or con to using a different watt bulb? I understand that the lower the watt the dimmer the light, and the higher the watt the brighter it is, but as far as the electrical system, is one more likely to burn out more often than the other? My neutral light already burns out often enough. If I had to pick a higher or lower watt bulb, which direction would you go with it?

I don't know if they are correct but I believe I stuck a 194 tag bulb in one of my bikes (may not have been the GS) gauge cluster, see if they look similar to the bulb you took out.

Yeah the two bullet connectors that go nowhere where on my race GS as well. Used them to run the AMB transponder.

going with a different wattage bulb could affect the rate the signals blink at.

if you put a significantly higher wattage bulb the extra current could burn the harness and wires.

Hrmmm... may have a new problem in the making... the bike has had a rough life prior to me getting it, it's been a learner machine since it rolled off the line in 91, then I took it and tossed it down the track a couple times, and now it's a learner machine again... it's taking a good number of hits to the left side peg bracket, to the point now that it likes to bend in a bit on any tip over.  I don't see how to fix it short of a new frame... bah.
