GS stalls when shifting into first

just as the title says, after starting my bike, when I shift into 1st, it stalls, usually only when first started, if its warm it won't stall.

Is your kickstand down?  There's a safety switch that shuts off the engine.

its either the kickstand or the kickstand stop fluid.

Try this... after you have let it warm up - start the bike then attach luggage as may be required, put on jacket, helmet, gloves - with choke still on so revs are a little higher, Slo-o-o-owly put it into 1st. You should hear a small crunch as if the clutch is not working correctly. This will keep it from stalling. Alternatively, turn off the choke and give a little throttle so it's revving around 2k before slo-o-o-owly putting it into 1st.

no, its not the kick stand.  minister is right on.

I was concerned there is something wrong with the transmission,  is it normal to do that?  I am in phoenix, so I don't use the choke right now, when I start it, it does idle a little low, I will try maybe using a little choke, or just giving it some gas.  I don't let it warm up very long, maybe 60sec.   It so hot here I feel that is sufficient.

If your idle is below 1000, you will want to turn it up.

I fixed that problem on mine by raising the fully warmed up idle to 1500 rpm. It prevents the bike from dying when cold better.

my idle is around 1100 cold and 1600 warm.  I have been debating if I should turn it down some.
