stuck-to-the-seat

Hey all,

I got my first bike this summer which is the gs500. I have to say i love this bike very much. I don't have much to compare as i've only test drove a few other bikes but i love the weight and riding position. I've pushed the little thing hard and a gasket failed but otherwise it's tip top. Been reading on this board since and there is great knowledge on here. I decided to start to play with the bike so i'm waiting on parts:
- progressive springs
- rear katana shock
- rear katana rim
- new bt016's
- new headlight
- sprockets 15/45
- bar end mirrors

I'd like to rejet the carbs and get a new exhaust eventually but i'm not in a big rush to do this. I cut the fender and passenger hand rails also took off the chain guard off and looking to cut the tail and remove the plastics. I've seen a few members who have done this. I'm just wondering where they relocated the parts? Like to put on a rear hugger too.

NIce to meet you all

Hi.

:dunno_white:

I'd rather ride a bike over the summer than wrench on it. Plenty of time in the winter for that. Whatever makes you happy though.

Welcome.

Agree,

Those mods are very easy to do really. Pretty much all can be done in one sitting. I've been riding all the time. I pulled an 8 hour straight ride one day not going anywhere really. My ass was numb by the end. :D

Yeah, the winter is for mods, summer is for riding. I'm fighting to get my bike on the road before the cold weather is here. The new title just came in the mail, so I have to see about getting some insurance, the registration and inspection, and very likely some new tires before it'll pass inspection. The hardest thing at the moment is finding new light bulbs for the stupid aftermarket turn signal I have, as the right signal isn't working either. I might just order some new ones so I can get it moving!

What signals do you have? I like to find some at some point. I hate those stock laterns. This winter i plan on painting the frame, rims and tank. PLus i have my dirt bike to work on.

If you can ride, you should ride. My bike is not running at the moment so I am prety upset with not being able to...

So true..being we only get a good few months of riding here in nova scotia we take advantage. I just ordered the parts so they won't be in until the middle of next month i imagine. I had my first experience losing the rear end today. I hit a snaking crack fillied with some rubber, they don't take in account  motorcycles on the road during their hypothesis process i guess ,which kicked out the rear tire. Quite an interesting experience...i was told when in doubt stay on the gas..and it worked out in my favor today.

i'm new to this bike also, but ive owned a bunch, and it really is a great little bike...and as for the tar line things in the road, i realized on this bike they really can make you slip all over the place...on the bigger bikes ive had, with bigger tires, they don't do much unless they are big....but i notice my tires slippin off of them all the time on this bike...something to watch out for fer sure!

Today was another fun time. I was turning slowly right off a main road onto a secondary and there was a bit of gravel on the corner. Well my front tire started sliding out and i had an "OH shaZam!!" moment because i was headed for a car waiting to turn. I'll be the first to admit i had some serious target fixation and nailed the rear brake..which happend automatic because i was too busy watching the big object i wanted to hit. The bike stood up a bit and got some grip so i was able to turn it.

This was a slow speed scenario that was waaayyyy worst that my higher speed snake ride!

Be glad you don't live in Kissimme see my bad roads thread. You think a tar snake is bad try and 8"deep X 12" Wide gouge in the road when you gotta make a turn into 55mph traffic with now stop light for help.

Just see my bad roads thread for pics of that krappy stuff!

Ya i took a look at those pics. Thats pretty bad. I have no one to blame but myself on my adventures. Thankfully they have just be valuable learning experiences. A little more observational judgement would help me out! :icon_sad:
