Jumpy Electronic Tach

Hey Guys,

I got a 2007 "F" with 6000km's on it

Took the g/f on a ride tonight and my tach started jumpy around like crazy after riding 40-50km. It seems to operate fine until the bike get really hot. Stopped for a ice cream along the way and sat for about 20 mins. Tach behaved normally for about 20-30km's. Then same issue,  will jump down then up, up then down and then quit for 30 seconds or so then randomly jump up to a magical rpm, than in no way goes with what rpm's I'm running. Guessing I got a bad ground somewhere? Any other ideas?

I'm definitely guessing bad ground.  I doubt you have a bad battery or low charge.

When you start the bike and remove the battery, there isn't enough power to run everything.  The tach is the first to act wierd from what I remember.

Check the tightness on the battery connections.  I had that happen on mine on a ride, and later on the ride it cut out completely.  Turned out the battery cable had come loose.  That fits with what annguyen1981 said too.  It's freaky as all get out when it happens though...

Bit of an update:

A while ago i had the vent-tube for the battery come dislodged from thew battery, noticed it the one day while using the super secret helmet lock. Little did i know that some acid spilled out and landed on the rear brake torque arm and the rear brake pedal/ switch assembly, Took apart the connector for the switch and found it all corroded, cleaned it up. After taking the LHD faring and tank off i found this. Not sure if that is the problem yet, haven't had time tonight to put it back together, will do 1st thing in the a.m. and update after I take it for a ride. Thanks to annguyen1981 and PachmanP (will double check the battery tomorrow a.m.)

Glad you got it fixed.  The culprit was probably the acid damaged connector because a loose battery connection will cause much more than just a jumpy electronic tach.  I'm going with a modern AGM battery next time.

You know the Leafs and Sabres suck, don't you?  It's to the point I can't watch anymore.  It's like watching baby ducks being thrown into a wood chipper.  Even the Blackhawks are good now.  Where are the Leafs and Sabres?  Nowhere.  They look like farm clubs for the rest of the league, and I see no end to it.

The worst part is Toronto and Buffalo are two of the best hockey towns in the league and their fans deserve better.  I can't stand it.  We still have the same president, GM, and coach, and we gutted our scouting department.  Now that's a formula for winning!  Only in Buffalo...

LOL   The Sabres sure do SUCK . At least the Leafs finally have a competent man in charge now and seem to be heading in the right direction this time. I just wish this whole Phoenix B.S would get settled so Balsillie (sp) and the NHL can stop taking over the damn hockey headlines. Oh and that whiny baby in Ottawa needs to give me some of his salary since he isn't too grateful!
