Drop-In Air Filter

Hey all,

I'm looking for a source where I can order a K&N air filter.

NOT THE PODS!!!
I did a search for "air filters" on air filters and all I can find is tons of info on pod-style filters. My wife's GS500 is mildly rejetted so we don't need gobs of air.

I looked on the K&N website and figured the part number is SU-5589. Can anybody vouch for this?

Where can I order one of these filters?
I went to several websites and they don't seem to carry thar part number.

I've got a brand new one I never used if you want to buy it off me.  I got it from Ron Ayers over the summer, but never dropped it in.... This is the info from the website:

I ordered mine at my local dealer a couple years ago, but I'm sure there are several online sources.

Hmmm.  I just checked my 2001 Chaparral catalog , and it lists K&N part #SU-0051 (Chaparral part #340-0226) for the GS500E.

OK, I did a search for that Chaparral part # on their web site, and it came back with SU-5589-1 OEM REPL AIR FILTER for $44.99.

OK, I bought one of these filters.

Took the stock filter out.

Followed the instructions and installed the accompanying gasket at the base of the K&N filter.

When I went to drop the filter in place and screw it down I discovered that the stock screws are not long enough to use with the K&N filter. The base of the filter (where the holes for the mounting screws are located) is thicker than the base on the stock filter

The K&N filter came with two screws but those aren't long enough either.

Has anybody come across this situation?

I could swear that my SU-5589 came with 4 long screws.  I don't remember having a problem with installation at all.  BTW, what's the gasket you mentioned?  Are you talking about the restrictor?
