Common problems with the thing that makes your turn signals blink?

So when I was getting my bike put back together, I noticed my right turn signals weren't working. I searched everywhere for light bulbs that would fit my cheap aftermarket signals, and it wasn't happening. Eventually I just bought some new turn signals because it was easier than finding the bulbs, but apparently the current is different, and the lights just come on and stay on, but regardless I was playing with my old ones, moving them around to see which one had the burned out bulb, and I realized they all work! It's actually that little box under the seat that makes them blink. If I pull on the plug, or push it a little they'll all blink, but not so much if I stop pulling or pushing on the plug.

So is there a reason it's doing this, is there something I can do to help it, or do I just need to replace that stupid thing? and if so, does anyone have one I can buy off of you quickly?! it's the only part I need to get my bike working 100%.

Let me know if you guys have any advice.

and are all turn signals supposed to use the same resistance? Would these turn signals I got work on some bike that's not a GS, or do they just have the complete wrong bulbs for any kind of bike? I feel like I got taken, althought they were $7 from Hong Kong, so no surprise or dissapointment.

Could be a bad blinker module. I have my stock one and it worked as far as I know. Shoot me a pm with your details and I can send you mine since I swapped over to all LED's and an electronic blinker module. $10 shipped.

TT can you put up a pic? If it is what I'm thinking it is it can be had at most auto parts stores.

You can use almost any two pole blinker relay on that. Ask from any auto part store. Relays break up easily for example if you short circuit your wires during installation

I would take cboling up on his kind offer.  In the meantime I think you have a bad connection on one of the lugs on the blinker relay.  I've never been inside one on this bike, but they're usually riveted on and can get loose over time.  If you can get the cover off the blinker relay you can use some paste or liquid flux on them and solder them.  That should clear the problem up.  I take it your connections to the blinker module are clean and tight since you didn't mention it.

Funny you mentioned it because I got my bike inspected yesterday only to find that I have a bad connection to my right rear cheap aftermarket blinker.  Good thing I noticed in time.  I pressed the wires into the housing and got the signals to work so I passed inspection, but I have a little wiring work to do.  :thumb:

Yep, already took him up on it. The wires/plug hook together nicely, and it blinks fine if I wiggle the whole thing back and forth, so it must be something coming loose inside. Maybe I'll pull it apart when I get the new one just to see how it works.
