I just noticed, my wife's GS500 was made in Spain.

I sold my 1994 GS500e a few weeks back but I was riding my wife's 2005 GS500F because I missed the little bike and I was looking it over when I noticed it was made in Spain.  I am pretty sure my 1994 GS500E was made in Japan but I never really looked.  When did they start making them in Spain?  Was the 1994 made in Japan like I think or am off base on that?

Your 1994 GS was made in Japan as were all 89-02 GS500/E models imported to the US.  The 04 and later GS500F models came from Spain.  No 03 models were imported to US.

The Spanish made GSs had forks made in Spain which can be identified by that little emblem above the axle and to the right of the lower caliper bolt on the right fork slider.  See pic:

The forks on GSs made in Japan didn't have that little emblem on the right fork slider.

407,400 miles in 30 years for 13,580 miles/year average.  Started riding 7/21/84 and hung up helmet 8/31/14.

My bike says it was manufactured in ESP. Well, my bike doesn't SAY it cause it cannot speak. But the Compliance Plate has ESP stamped on it as the place of manufacture. Which could just mean, that's where the Plate was made, or the frame it's riveted to.

The mole in Espanol goes role'n down the hole. Just doesn't have the same ring to it as rain mainly on planes in Spain, nor does it tie your tongue like Plucking Pheasants  :icon_mrgreen:
