Don't have a GS to look at at the moment but I thought the speedo cable has a screw/bolt that holds it in the front hub and a screw on mount like a garden hose at the speedometer end.

Yeah it just screws in both ends. You should just be able to pull the one cable off and screw the new one in.

Check first, your speedo might have just stopped working if the cable worked its way loose from the back of the speedometer. Otherwise test both ends. Unscrew it from the wheel end, and spin it with your fingers, does the speedometer needle move? then screw it back into the wheel and remove it from the speedo, put the bike on the center stand, and awkwardly find a way to lift the front end, spin the wheel, and see if the other end of the cable spins. If both of those go OK then you could try the new cable, but if one or the other doesn't work, then the actual problem is with your speedometer or the hub.

After I received my license and got home I did pull the cable out and checked it out.  I tightened the part that hooks into the speedometer, but it still didn't work, but I didn't check where it connects to the speedo hub.  I should be receiving the speedo stuff soon and then I'll be able to do more work on it.

The first time I put my bike back together I wasn't paying attention. I took the bike outside and got it running. I was trying to set the idle as it was warming up and thought my tach wasn't working, even though the cable was tight. Then I started wondering why my bike was idling at 15mph. haha

Ha, that's funny. That sounds like something I would do.

Alright....I got the speedo cable and hub today in the mail, so that's good news.  The old speedo wire broke off at the hub.  Well I had the bike on the center stand and guess what happened when I was installing the wire.  The freaking bike decided it wanted to lay down.  I had to pick the bike up and it doesn't look like any damage.  After I put the newer cable on I decided to start it up.  Guess what?!  The throttle is now sticking.  This bike has been the biggest pain  in the rear and I want to drive it off a bridge.  :2guns:

Haha, I fixed the problem!  The bar end was causing the throttle to stick up against the throttle cable housing (or whatever it's called).  I'm going to take it and see how it does.
