Am I too big for the GS500F?

Hi All,

I'm getting back into riding and I think the GS500F would be a good place to start but I'm afraid I might be too big.  I'm 6'2 and 250 :thumb:

Pros?  Cons?  Move to something bigger?  All opinions welcome...

Thanks!

I'm only 195, but I'm 6'3" tall and I feel very comfortable on the bike on all but the longest of rides (2hrs +).  Plenty of power in that little 500, and even at my height, I can stretch out and arch my back without letting go of the bars.

The only thing I'm not sure of is how the mushy suspension might be a problem with the weight.  Anybody else have more experience with that?

I would say your height certainly isn't gonna be a problem though.

I'm around 6 feet, and disproportionally short for my weight (read: I'm a fatass).  The bike is a great ride for me.  I do mostly in-town commuting with it.  Lots of starts & stops.  Suspension is soft, so I am planning changes this winter.  Hope this helps.

6'5" and 220lbs here and I's VERY comfortable (i have a 92 gs500E). It definatly carts me around pretty well, lots of fun too!
Happyness is like peeing you pants.  Everyone can see it but only you can feel its warmth.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I've been sitting on all sorts of bike and I just don't seem to fit the leg cut outs on the tanks.  I compete in powerlifting so it's not only my weight but my width as well that's the problem.  BUt you guys are tall and seem to do just fine...

How much would spring upgrades and ??? cost to handle my hefty a$$

Anyone know if the ergos will be the same on the GS500F?

Thanks again  :thumb:

I've been sliding back on my seat so my knees hold the tank comfortably.  Being tall, you really never get too close to the tank.  Front progressive springs and something like a Katana 600 shock will do okay.  The progressive springs are $60 and the shock... well go look for one used :)

The world was made for little people.  Tall people are discriminated against

The 04 gs500F is same bike (+ fairing of course) as the naked 01-03 models so ergos should be same.

The fairing always make bikes look bigger than they are.  The SV family is a perfect example of this. The next time you are at a dealer look at a naked and SVS side by side. The faired bike lookes bigger.
