So hard to believe it has been eight years. My continuing sympathies for those who have lost friends, families, and co-workers.

I remember exactly what I was doing that morning when I found out. It's like it is burned into my brain to never be erased. Was such a beautiful day here in Florida. I was working in Epcot and when we closed only one person even asked why much less gave us a problem. It was the day where reality invaded the fantasy of Disney. That week the international guest that could not return home where amazing they would walk up to us ( esp those from the U.K) and express their condolences and sympathies.

Where were you that day?

I was on duty at Fort Belvoir, VA.  When the Pentagon got hit we sent some guys over there to help.  The base got locked down.  The wife was in DC and no cell calls could get through.  There was an Army captain on duty with me who's husband worked at the Pentagon.  She kept trying to call him because the plane hit the section where he worked.  He didn't make it out.  It was a very surreal day.

I was in my freshman year at Saint Francis University....where the plane went down in Somerset just 30 miles from me.  My mom called hysterical that the world was ending.  It was such a sad day.  But while we never will forget 9/11, always remember that 9/12 was the turning day for all Americans to become just a bit more patriotic.

i was driving accross Colorado, listening to the news on an old walkman as my car had not radio. i got pulled over by a state tropper. he asked what i was listening to that was so important. when i told him, he gave me a warning, told me it was technically illegal but he'd let me slide due to circumstances. a few miles up the road, i just pulled over on a nice wide shoulder and just stared up at the sky, and the surrounding mountains. i remember thinking, wow, the sky is so blue and gorgeous, how ironic that i'm in such a beautiful setting and recieving such horrible news.

At that time I was working nightshift anf had not long got up - it being rather later in the day for us Europeans - I was watching some drama or other, I forget what when an "infobar" appeared on screen saying swith to news channel NOW, something that I had never seen before nor since. I could not believe the horror of the moment nor can I believe that eight years have passed. R.I.P.

I was on my way to a 9:00am dentist appointment and a radio DJ said something about a plane hitting a building in NYC.   They tend to make lots of stupid jokes on morning radio, and I waited for the punchline.   He repeated it about a minute later, but no details, so I assumed a Cessna or something had hit a building.

Once in the dentist's office, they switched the "Smooth Jazz" station over to a news station, and by the time my teeth were done being cleaned (about 25 minutes), the second plane had hit the other tower, and we realized it was something very intentional.

I went home and turned on the news, which was wall-to-wall coverage by then and I woke my roommate up.  ("John!  Wake up!  There's something happening you need to see!"

I was watching when the second tower collapsed.

I clearly remember the zombie-like feeling of the next week or so...going to work, going home, eating...just sort of in a daze, trying to get the meaning of it all.

I was sitting in an SAT Math Prep class in high school.  It was sad and I will always remember where I was.  I actually feared for my life, although the possibilities of an airplane targeting my school was slim to none.  I can't imagine what those in NY and DC had to feel.

It really is so easy to become so complacent in our lives. Remembering back, I had just taken my youngest son to school and was listening to the radio and going back home to get ready for work. Just an unreal time. I remember listening to some of the comments of people who made it out of the towers and the horrors they saw as they got out. Those particular details have stuck with me more than anything.

I was working at my desk, with the radio on kind of quiet.  When I heard the DJ say a plane hit the World Trade Center, I thought it was an accident, probably a small plane (it had happened in the late 40s/50s I think).  Then when he reported the second hit, I knew there was no accident.  I called my wife and told her I loved her, and asked her to give my son (3 years old at the time) a hug for me.  I still remember the feeling...  The next feeling I remember was when I saw the contrail of a commercial airliner again.  That seemed to tell me that we were ready to get back to work, back to life.

I was living in phoenix az, sleeping, was a student at MMI ( moto service school) i had my big tv in living room, i had lightly awoken, rolled over and turned my mini tv on, hearing the exact point when plane 2 hit the tower, im like WTF too damned early for action flicks this time of day. so i rolled over an looked at it, and sadly realised it was NO movie, my roomates thought i was on crack or meth or whatever else was available in teh area, when i told them about it. to turn on the news . lost a couple of distatn relatives that day. one in finance at teh WTC. another  on the one that hit PA , and ironically he was on his way to see the other. im wrapping up a small tribute vid. whihc im going to YT. and will post link here. i worked security then,  next door to phoeniox sky harbour airport. and within days, endless streams of c5a? galaxies, as well as blackhawks, and MANY b52,s were coming in and going out. enroute to afghanistan.

In Merced CA in a bug infested little house across from the airport, asleep and expecting 2 job interviews on tuesday and wednesday ... much like I am now, but with a crappier house.

I took a factory job by the end of the week at the wine bag making factory in merced and wondered why factory jobs have not improved at all since I last worked @one in 1992.

Anyway, I woke to the radio alarm clock which when I first heard was talking about the crash in PA. I decided to put on the TV and saw a lot more.

Cool.

Ah...I completely forgot this little tidbit:

Everyday I drove to work right past the little airport in Lantana, Florida, where 5 of the assholes trained to fly.   They also had surveillance video of them working out at the gym next door to where i worked.   So 5 of the little terrorist f*cks were right in my neighborhood.

I was sitting around thinking about how it'd only take a few years before 9/11 would be just a hair shy of being a national holiday while 4/19, 4/20, 2/26 and countless others roll by in relative obscurity. shaZam!, people barely remember what 12/7 is.

I'm willing to bet that just about everyone who reads this (who gives a shaZam!, anyway) will have to look up at least one of those dates.

ohgood

9/12 was more interesting for me. people rolled out of bed and saw a sky that was completely free of aircraft. we ate lunch at a lake (the wife n me) and we wondered who we would go to war with over it. china ? iran ? russia ? we knew it would be a big, bad, stupid, never-ending war, but not with who.

it was quite the beautiful day on the 11th, and 12th. rode my bikes and enjoyed the sudden show of patriotism. then the suv's with magnetic flags made in china started rolling, and i started finding flags in the street, covered in dirt and tire tracks. people actually walked and stepped on our flag, in our own country, instead of disposing of it proper.

ignorance ? patriotism ? a rally point to slaughter thousands because of religious beliefs or skin color ? got me, but we're still doing it.

ya, i'll remember 9-11. it opened flood gates for hate, stupidity, and murder. and we're still doing it.

And the weird thing, some people, in a certain party, in this country. think George bush is responsible for it. and others, , in another party. section think his predecessor is responsible for this. in reality. the  BASTARDS flying the plane. were directly  responsible for it

i was on duty in Coronado with my team.   i went home and got my gear ready.  in a week we had our ops o and within 3 weeks we were in country hunting and killing.   but it was for not.  he is still alive and at large, why? i don't know.  politics(he is from Saudi royalty) also if captured he would spill the beans on who sent him money(including Saudi royalty, American companies thru the CIA and the Saudis).  also if killed he would be martyred and much much more valuable. so they just let him go.  really they did. there were many times he was painted but nothing launched for various frivolous reasons.  anyhow,  my team was the tip of the spear and we were got there with the first bunch.   it was a crazy time with open roe and lots of support for killing targets.  it was one of the best times of my career.   i did 2x in Iraq and would rather do a year in Afghanistan than a week in Iraq. Iraq is bush bull shaZam!.  Afghanistan is the real deal.    even though i have been retired since 2004 almost every day i wish i were back over there and killing those big nose, bad teeth, dress wearing turban Arab fuckers.   religion sucks all of it but the one i hate the most is muslims.   too bad they would not open up a shooting gallery here in the US for us....i would have a blast :)
