ignition question

ok  i have a 04gs500.  someone tried to steal it a couple weeks ago.  they tried to knock out the ignition cylinder without success.  they left the bike a few blocks away.  my question is will a lock cylinder from and older one work in the newer ones.  i can get and older one pretty easily but the newer ones are kind of pricey and wasnt sure if this would work or not.

Check the Ron Ayers part numbers. My recollection was that they changed at some point, but I can't confirm that. It's probably possible to make an older style igniton work by hacking up the wiring harness (do this on the ignition side, rather than the main harness side, just to be safe.
