How do I figure out the proper jets for my setup?

Hello,

I'm still working the kinks out of my '02 GS.  There is a pending full carb teardown and I would like to replace the jets, might as swell do the gaskets as well.  So I guess it's really two questions, what information do I need to figure out what jets I need (There is an aftermarket exhaust) and where shall I look for the gaskets?  Pardon me if this is painfully obvious.

Peace,

Pipe and stock filter = +1 all around.

130 mains for the 02 and 20 pilots, mids and float can be left stock cos the 01+ floats dont move that much with age and mids can be fiddled with with washers under the needles.

I sell the above mentioned parts in a pack. It will cost you 25 shipped in US, 27 shipped in any other country.
Gaskets ? I dont think you need em till you see its leaking (air in or gas out mostly).
Open it gently and you'd get away without tearing stuff.

Clean everything, check floats, set air screws to 3 synch them by eyeball and swap the jets and toss it back on.
Full carb tear down ? I guess that qualifies, dont need to derack em or pull the choke or start pulling metal tubes and stuff out. And dont touch the jets in the bell mouth, you booger those and you're shafted.

Cool.

and for a UK 2002 k2 spec please Srinath?

150mains? what about pilot?

- k&n lunchbox,full highflow exhaust system,
currently all stock- jet needle-5dh41(second groove from top). 115 mains,17.5 pilots (as upgrade's not fitted yet).
I did read into your debate with kevinC back in 2003  http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=4241.0  iv'e come to the conclusion that a dynojet is a complete waste of time/money :dunno_white:

any UK guys/gals out their no where to get hold of the pilot jets over this side of the pond?, i see wemoto.com sell the main jets but not the pilots :dunno_white:

im in the uk but also have only noticed mains on wemoto.
i have a stock '94 model although it does have a brand spanking new suzuki exhaust.

what should i be upping my jets too if you dont mind me asking?
ive already stripped, cleaned rebuilt with new seals all round and reset them to suzukii spec.

hi bud,

you say a brand spanking new suzuki exhaust,do you mean a standard shiny new stock one or a aftermarket full exhaust or slip-on end can.standard air filter?

if standard exhaust/air filter maybe a jet upgrade want be worth while, but im sure there are many on here more knowlegable than me myfriend.

if you find through your sparkplugs that your running a little lean, try turning the mixture screws 3 turns out as was suggested to me by the buddah,my plugs are a lovely tan colour now matey :thumb:

its the standard and very shiney new stock exhaust mate.

i have to admit the bike runs fine as it is although my mpg seems quite a bit lower than i expected.

in my opinion T1z3R,i would leave jets stock if all else is,maybe remove and clean the carbs, make sure floats are set correctly,go 3 turns out on the miture srews and defenatly fit a fuel filter and check for any small fuel leaks in the system  :thumb:

I am sorry any tweaking of jets, especially by me will make the gas mileage worse. In fact I dont even know what gas mileage I get on anything.
OK fine, virago I know is in the 30's, sv in the 40's, GS was in the mid-high 40's - though with increasing age my 89 dropped into the 30's, savages both run in the 40's ... but well ... I dont care, I like it to run clean and gas mileage be damned.
However the biggest way you lose gas mileage on a prefectly running bike is over flow from floats into air box and out into the drain. That should not happen and its good.

I'm still curious how to figure out what number jets to order - I'm assuming that they won't be stock because I have the aftermarket exhaust on it... the brand of which I'll have to double check.

Pipe and stock filter ... that is +1 all around.
I dunno what pilot model name is ... but you need 20, small round mikuni mains in whatever you have +1, mids if you need 65 also small round mikuni. You have 127.5 mains If I remember, so 130 is what you need.

If you buy it form me, I'll get these in a pack and send em. $25 without mids, $33 with mids shipped, and if outside US add $2.

Ok, I think I see - I am not fluent in carburetor language so pardon me for having to answer the question twice.  As I understand it the bike was already rejetted by the previous owner but I think I boogered them when I was cleaning them up.

Unless you used a drill to clean it or maybe a rotary tool, the jets are re useable ...
