I bought some stuff form a place in Michigan. Great, no sales tax, as I expected.

Then I bought somehting from calieeeeee forrrrrrrnia.

And this shows up -

SHIPPING: In most cases, we ship within 3-4 business days of receipt of payment. Combined shipping available on multiple items. TAX: We are required to charge sales tax (local percentages apply; OR & DE excluded) for purchases shipped to anyone of these states. (AL, AZ, AR, CA, CT, FL, GA, ID, KS, KY, LA, MO, NV, NJ, NM, NC, OK, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA) Tax will be automatically calcutated during check out.

OK so is this something new ? Is the state of NC shafting me ... or is it CA.

Either way, buyer beware, this may just be the Tax and spend gubbernator saying hasta la vista baby to your $$$ ...

Cool.

you cant be charged sales tax while buying something online because you are suppost to claim online buying on your taxes at the end of the yr and pay the tax to your state.

I'm not sure what the laws are but I know if I order online from big retailers (Walmart, Target, Home Depot...) that they charge me sales tax for the state that I reside in.  I assume it's because they operate retail stores in MD too.  Not sure about having to pay CA tax though...

Sales tax is regional in NC?  MD has the same rate in all counties (6%).  PA has the same tax rate but does not charge it on certain items like medicine.

There was a 1 cent sales tax passed in my county, as in, its 1 percent ... not 1 cent. There is atleast 1.5% add on tax in charlotte. BTW I'd like to kick Beverly Perdue in the teeth, she's shafting all the charlotte projects. However there is a ton of traffic going through charlotte and we're shafting them all by building useless roads and widening them and not doing nothing for the interstate/highways.

Big Shot

With online/out of state purchases, if the business your buying from has roots in your state then you have to be charged sales tax.  Although you'd think and by all means it looked like you were buying from CALI, even with it being shipped from there, if they have any outlets/business property/distribution centers/stores and the like in your state then it's not consider an out of state purchase.  <--- Not 100% accurate but good enough for discussion purposes.

Haven't heard about anything new though.  But admittedly, this is not my area of expertise.
