College tuition is SOOOO expensive these days

Covering what people want isn't journalism, its what soap operas are there for.
There is a small number of real journalists, and a large number of fake ones. The fake ones are given the mass appeal ones.
You need to measure some things by the longer implications rather than what happened at that instant. Its like a motor that makes a lot of power, then promplty blows up.

CSI if it covers a lot of subjects, lets just give them a degree in say chemistry or biology. That way they can work in things other than CSI'ing when they dont get jobs as CSI's. If they do, we can get them to grad schools for it.

Really again catering to the lowest instinct. Its on TV and we want it crowd.

There is 2 different but parallel scenario's here.
We need to be on TV - the balloon boy's parents.
We see it on TV and we want to be it - CSI students, comming to think of it, they are the same.

I am not saying CSI students are not taught cool stuff in many subject areas. But if they graduate as CSI's and there is a huge number of them graduating very soon, where would they find employment. Cool as it is, its not out in the real world. There is barely 500 CSI's working as CSI's in the several 1000 police departments in the country. There isn't a need for a whole lot more.

Now these hard working people who have studied 4 years of very intensive CSI related material as you have said, its very intensive research field, could have spent that time studying say, mechanical engineering, or electrical engineering, and they may put their heads together and build a hybrid bike that runs 400 miles on a charge and is easy to fix and runs on bio diesel when its not charged. I am just saying. its impractical for that large number to study it. Not that its not cool. Life is not reflected by TV.

We are short of true engineers and technologists as well as research scientists in almost any practical field.
