Can't wait to see how it turns out with the modified gs seat. It looks bloody good as is.

What colour are you gonna paint it?

I'm thinking flat black, but dont wanna pull away from the lines, with there being no contrast.  my other thought is powder-coat the frame black, and stay with the green thats on the tank now.  but I also like the factory blue on the tail.  to be honest, I dont really have a clue what color yet. if I go with blue, I will need to sell my green leds, and buy some blue ones, but thats not really a big deal either

i think, the rear end is too long!

shorter is looking better. my opinion.

it is about an inch closer to tank than in that mockup pic.  it is actually the exact same length from gas tank to tail as an sv, as a stock sv seat fits it perfectly

I have the same probem. Tank to tail is the same as the SV650 (03-09), but f%&ked if it doesn't look way longer.

I'v got a shot on my phone of my 04 tail, and it looks really long like that too, it must be the angle.  no passengers for you?  I ride passengers frequently, thats the reason I went with the sv subframe

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread. Nah, no passangers for me, but I have the provision to mount up the passanger seat if I need to (no pegs though).

is it possible to do this swap without changing the subframe?

If someone is planning on doing the second gen tail swap they all look the same but they're not.

03 was the only year that used a steel subframe. The 04+ is aluminum.  Figured it might help anyone who was hoping to weld an entire 2nd gen SV subframe onto a GS500.  You'd have to get it all from the same bike because some mounting points for things like the seat are different as well.

If you already knew this, than sorry for stating the obvious.   :D
My 90 GS500E has spread itself across the nation.

you would have to weld up new mounts for the seat and such.  I actually bolted the subframe onto my bike.  you could get away without any welding at all.

stock 1st gen subframe is steel.  I slightly bent my upper supports in so that it matched up properly

have about 200 miles on the swap, half of that without any seat foam, and I must say I love it!
