Well, its getting cold in iowa, cant sell this freakin 07 gs for nothing, gettin pretty bored with its lame power and looks.

Thinking of turning it into something you will all hate

a gs500 custom 60's style

Thinking gold metal flake paint on the tank and tail, some z bars, a 2 foot sissy bar on back, and a chrome honda 750 fender up front.

I do have a kz400 custom made frame that looks like it would hold a gs500, but thats tooo much work

Have fun, send pictures. Might be kinda fun. Not nearly as out there as some of Jim Knopf's stuff, and most folks seem to love that, even if it's not their thing.
1990 GS500EL - with moderately-ugly paintjob.
1982 XJ650LJ -  off the road for slow repairs
AGATT - All Gear All The Time
"Ride a motorcycle.  Save Gas, Oil, Rubber, Steel, Aluminum, Parking Spaces, The Environment, and Money.  Plus, you get to wear all the leather you want!"

Will post pics later as she sits now, interested to see if anyone has done this style,  Has anyone switched to spoked wheels??

Newbie - this is a slow year. I sold a savage in 06 in under 1 week for the same as I am asking for a savage with 1/3rd the miles. AKA better product same $ and no sale. We get gas $ surge, or a recovering economy next year and its back to quick sales on everything.

08 was a great year to sell stuff too. Gas gets $3 and up and bikes start to look great to the SUV driving clowns out there.

Cool.

Hell, I say mod it.  Why not.  And, you will have a very different GS.  Go rent Easy Rider and start thinking, lol.

The mascot of the GS500.. The creature that's got the biggest ugliest a$$ of them all.
A wombat. It's got a big ugly a$$ too.

I'm always in awe of tastefully customized bikes but I don't get what you're describing. If you don't like the bike and can't sell it for decent money stock, why put in more money and work on something that's going to be even harder to sell?

Jared

pretty much ditto to Gary ... get an older one that needs work and mod it. Sit on the 07 til spring and sell it ...

modding makes sense when you receive it with sheite missing ... then you find its goofed up/non stock replacements cheaper and it makes more $ sense mangling it than getting original.

I know of one clown who ratted out a perfectly good savage in blue. He sanded and did flat black crap on his whole bike. Looks like garbage. To that he slapped on a camo 30 caliber ammo box. I swear some people are on crack.

Ergo, he spent 100 bucks, a whole weekend on the bike and killed its resale to the tune of 1000 bucks.

Can you trade it in to a dealer or do they not take motorcycle trade ins for some reason? or do they just not offer you a good enough price.  Just curious how much are you asking for it?

try craigslist, i bought mine on craigslist

mabe include the words ninja 250 and ninja 500 in it so people who search for those find it too.. and they are comparable bikes.
