Just went over the poor man;s jetting pictorial.

why do you have to take out the pilot air screw/rubber plug?
what dose this do?

quoted "In green is the pilot air screw. If it hasn't been touched before, it is covered by a brass plug that needs to be taken out. This is a good time to do it. Carefully drill a hole in the plug, insert a a drywall screw and pull it out. Mine was already uncovered. "

also, i am putting on the K&N lunchbox, is the airbox drain hose needed or do i just take it out?

The airbox drain hose has nothing to connect to when their is no airbox left in the bike so it is not needed.

What rubber plugs are you talking about as the ones in what you quoted for the rejetting tutorial are brass plugs on the carbs.  I know they are on the American models but i don't know about other countries as you may not have them on your bike.  These screws are used for fine adjustments on your air/fuel mixture to make the bike run better.

What he said about the plugs being brass. at least my 97 ones are. The reason it says drill a hole in them and insert screw, is because its the easiest way of getting them out. and to answer your question "why do you have to take out the pilot air/rubber plug?" its because behind that plug is the adjusting screw, which your rejetting then youll need to turn that in or out depending on your size.  I think on the majoity or kits people suggest 3 turns out. or 3 1/2.
