Once you try a lockable and removable hard topcase you will see why they are so popular. We had one on a 2007 GS500F, mounted on a rack from Twisted Throttle.

Trying to not spend that much for a mountable option.

You need a rack of some kind to mount a hard case.  There are the SW-Motech linked above and a Givi rack for about the same price and a Rentec you can find on a search and others maybe. Search "luggage racks."

I made a rack for soft luggage for my 97 GS and I had a Suzuki luggage rack bought for $40 new on my 02 when I added a Givi Monolock case that came with a base plate that mounted to my tubular rack, I think that Bestem case your looking at comes with a base plate too.  Suzuki rack is no longer made, I had to add some bracing to it for the hard case.



Cost me $10-15 in material for that rack on my 97.  If I needed another rack for a hard case on a GS I'd just make one for about the same cost plus some of my time.  Made a sketch of it a few years back in case I forgot what I had in mind.
