Getting back on a GS

After selling my GS a couple years ago I've decided to buy another one. Mainly for the insurance cost and gas mileage and insurance costs. I checked out an 04 the other night and I dont remember them being so weak. My GS had a -1 sprocket change, could this be why it felt like a really weak power delivery on the stock 04 that i looked at? Sounded like it was running pretty rough too, maybe just needed a carb cleaning.

Also how much does a V&H exhaust run these days and where about would i get one?

I think you just forgot how weak a GS can be. When I started riding one again after not riding any motorcycle for a few years I was decently surprised how hard it would start to pull around 3k rpm. A few months after I picked up another bike and didn't ride the GS for a month or so. The first time I tried to pull out I thought something was wrong with the clutch, haha. I was letting it out and giving it some gas but the bike just wasn't moving. I doubled my RPMs and let the clutch out more and it started to pull away but you've definitely gotta make the GS work for it and keep the rpms above 3k. You'll get used to it again if you pick one up.

I have a V&H on mine, and I think the noise makes the bike feel even slower. The louder the bike is the lower I want to keep the RPMs. Having the stock exhaust makes you feel a little better to revving it up to pull out, since you don't feel like you're trying to tear away from a red light and barely moving.

I have a new V&H that I'll probably sell if someone can suggest a QUIET full exhaust system. I bought it because my '92 had the exhaust painted and some holes drilled in it. Prefer a quiet bike. I think it was about $300. It is a full system, not a clip on.

Suggestions where to get a good exhaust system that's quiet?

Gunna go look at another tonight, maybe this one will feel better.

As opposed to saying, "another GS on the road to ruin...".
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

Most aftermarket exhausts usually come with a removable sleeve to make them quiter or louder. The one on my bike sounds pretty close to stock with it in.
