Just as fast as I joined this forum and bought the bike, I feel the need to sell it. I can't afford to keep riding and insuring it...

Hayward/Castro Valley Location.

The GS shown in the CL ad does not have clip-on handlebars, so it is most likely a 1990 model, manufactured late in 1989...

Good luck with your sale; hope you can find a buyer this close to Christmas. Lots of activity on the CL SFBay boards, so you just might find someone who wants a GS for the holidays... but I'd correct the ad if I were you, to avoid misleading anyone.

Got some heavy bills coming due in January, so I'll have to pass on it.

just cuz it doesnt have clip on style bars doesnt make it a 90+ bike if you notice on here alot of people by and install 89 bars on there 90 and  up bikes.

Yes, a lot of GS5 riders INSTALL the '89 clip-ons (or others) onto later models here in the US, but I've seen DAMN FEW who REMOVE the clip-ons to install tubular handlebars. The frame number will probably be the best indicator to find out which model it is, because the engine might not be the original one. Hell, even the frame might have been replaced...

NOW, I'm wondering why the OP removed the photo from the ad; it doesn't make a lot of sense, unless he's trying to hide something. He'd have a much better chance of finding a buyer quickly if the ad had some good photos in it...

Well, I doubt he's actually trying to screw with anyone; my best guess is that he simply isn't sure what year it is...

Hey OP, post the frame and engine numbers here, and we'll try to help you figure out what year your GS is... and for the record, I'm willing to ride it, I just can't afford to buy it right now. The doctor wants money from me; imagine that...

Hey josh, save a copy of those photos to your hard drive, empty your browser cache, then reload the page; you won't see any pictures in the ad. Or, you can look at the source code for the ad, or the page information; you won't find any links to a photo, because it has been removed. I took a screenshot of the page and saved it to my hard drive, in case any photos appear or reappear. He removed the photo from his Craigslist ad not long after my first post in this thread; I guess he thinks that if no one can see any photos of his GS, no one will doubt that he's selling an '89.

No big deal; he claims to be a student, so he's probably studying for finals this week. I wouldn't want to answer a lot of questions under those circumstances, either. I went back to college to finish another degree, and my first final is Friday, so I know how he feels. Most of the students are more than thirty years younger than I am; in fact, I'm older than most of their parents, and I'm older than most of the professors, with a few exceptions. I've been studying my ass off for the whole semester... and especially since the weekend, to prepare for the exams.
