Hey all, im fairly new to this forum and have purchased a 98 gs500 in early september. I figured it was about time to start putting my own personal touches on it so i decide i wanted to change up the seat a little bit and make it cafe style. I found an image on google of the style i was looking at doing and was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction of starting something like this. Does anyone sell seats and cowls like this or would i have to make my own? thanks!  :)

"hacked off most of the seat and formed a piece of sheet metal on an english wheel, then riveted it to the factory plastic under the seat"

He answered it for you!

I'm looking to do something similiar myself. I used to build cafe bikes and the tails on modern bikes drive me crazy, too angled up in the air. I like the straight, level lines of older bikes. For now I got rid of the goofball plastic cowl and now I show off my electronics  :thumb:

I've seen some kits you can buy, but they still look goofy to me.

yea i know what you mean, im trying to take that look away from my bike and make it more of a mix between a cafe and streetfighter. i think im going to take off the plastic on the sides and make some thin plastic strips to cover the wires but thats it. im just trying to figure out the seat right now. if anyone has an suggestions im more than willing to listen!

That bike looks awesome! never seen it before. It looks somewhat like a Ducati Monster tail. What he did is obviously cheaper, and looks pretty decent, but if you don't feel comfortable cutting up your seat and trying to wrap the sheet metal around it, you can always try to find a monster seat and cowl. A couple people have fitted them on their GS on this site, but you'll probably do more work trying to make it fit your subframe than you would cutting up your seat. I've got an extra seat in case you decide you want to buy a second one instead of cutting up your only one.

ah, I was reading through it a little bit, and of course someone had to throw this one in there.... "Bodywork looks like a buell.  "
