Hello everyone, I'm new here. My name is Josh and I just bought a 2006 GS500F about a week ago. I've been riding for about a year and a few months. First bike was a 2007 Ninja 250, a fantastic bike, then I had a 2000 CBR600F4, also terrific, then I hit some money woes and dropped outta riding for a bit. A bit further down I borrowed 600 bucks, bought a "project bike", gave up on it, parted it out for about 1400 total, then bought a 150cc chinese scooter to get back on 2 wheels. Loved the thing, put about 600 miles on it and sold it to my dad (yesterday). Bout the GS500f about a week ago, certainly needs some work but it's in pretty good shape overall.  About 10 grand on the Odo, bald tires (obviously from burnouts), the chain is so loose it's rubbing the plastic under it, my steering feels a bit off to the side (i'll make a post about that elsewhere), had been laid down on the right so lots of scratches and cracks in the fairings, PO took the barends out because they looked bad?, and for some reason my headlight shines really low.

But it actually runs great and I paid 1400 for it. Win.

Well anyways, just introducing myself. Oh, I'm 22, male, and live in Oklahoma. Happy Trails.

Welcome!   You'll find experts here for ANYTHING regarding your GS! We also give advice about just about anything else in life:  decorating, home improvement, women, holistic medicine, how to bury a  recently deceased in-law, and pet tips.
On those days when life is a little too much and nothing seems to be going right, I pause for a moment to ponder the wise last words of my grandfather:  "I wonder where the mother bear is?"

Many fun projects in store for you.

Jealous of Oklahoma riding season. I'm in NH mountains which are snowed in now till April.

Sounds like a good deal! Most of that seems like things you can fix pretty easily. Make sure you check out the manual/wiki before you adjust the chain. It should be a little loose when you're not on it, so having more plan than you think isn't a bad thing. When you're actually sitting on it it will be tighter.

We have a similar path getting here. After my first bike which was a dual sport, I put 14k on a ninja 250, then moved up to a 600(triumph speed4), bought the GS so my wife(GF at the time) could ride with me. I sold my bike, we stored hers for a couple years, and I've just recently pulled it out and started cleaning it up so I can get into riding again.

Lets see some pictures of your bike!

I'm very familiar with Pics or it didn't happen, I haven't even taken any of it yet. I feel so odd because of that. And now it's stored in my Dad's garage (hit a nice 20 degree high today) but I'll take some of it next time I visit it. Haven't finished winterizing it yet so I'll have another chance soon.

If the chain turns out to be bumpkis can someone recommend a good replacement? Preferably close to 50 dollars or less.
