After a ridiculously long wait(like a month or more), I finally got my Jardine Exhaust.
Installed it on thursday, and took some video of before and after as well as a short time lapse of the installation.

The hardest part was switching the damn rubber bumper for the centre stand over.
I like a non-sequitur as much as the next Giraffe.

Sounds excellent!  Nice vid too   :thumb:

+1 that thing was a pain to get on  if i had to do it over again i would probably try to put it on before i install it on the bike.
Silver 2006 GS500F
GStwin decals, K&N Lunchbox, Jardine Exhaust, 22.5/60/142.5, Vortex clip-ons.

Statistics are like a bikini - what they reveal can be interesting, but it's what they conceal that really matters.

hey i read the info on the vid. its says you already had a jet kit installed and K&N filter before putting the pipe on.  What size jets are they now? and ive read some people say that you should not do a filter change, jet kit, or pipe until you can do all three at the same time, and ive read some people say its okay to do jets with stock air and pipe but if you replace the pipe then you need to replace filter and jets as well. and vise-versa.  Whats your opinion on this? how long have you been riding with new filter and jets but stock pipe? notice any poor performance back when you were still riding stock pipe? or do the jets help a little and the filter helps a little more and the pipe helps even more?

pave_spectre

Jets are currently 20, 62.5, 147.5. (based on what other people have said works I took a guess)

Definitely need the filter with the jets. The filter arrived a little while after the jets, but I was too impatient to wait. Holy cow did it run rich. :D
The filter got rid of the fuel smell in the exhaust.

Have only ridden it once with the full set of mods, and it still needs work so can't give any kind definitive answer on how it performs.
I'm thinking I need to drop the main jet down to 140 or 142.5 (based on random assumption). Currently if I give it full throttle it won't go over 7-8000rpm, and the engine stutters like crazy, with what sounded like backfiring.
Once I am happy that the engine can actually use the full rev range under all throttle conditions (or near as I can get it), I will take it to a professional to get the carby tuned, as I probably won't have the time to mess around with it.

There is a noticeable weight saving on the exhaust. I could carry the new exhaust around in one hand all day. Just a few minutes of the old exhaust and my arm got tired.
I like a non-sequitur as much as the next Giraffe.

I did change it over before I put the exhaust, and it was still a royal pain.

Jerk!  As soon as I finally convince myself I don't want to bother with a Jardine on the GS you go and post this!

Any chance you'd do a bathroom scale weigh in on the Jardine and the Stock?  The stock exhaust being super heavy is what got me started on the whole stint and every pound I shave off the bike is a pound I don't have to shave off me!
'04 F to an E to a wreck to a Wee Strom?
HEL stainless brake lines
15W fork oil
Kat 600 Rear shock
K&N drop in and Buddha jets
It wants me to go brokedie.

pave_spectre

Only scale I own is a kitchen scale, which has a maximum of about 2 kilos.
All I can really tell you is than  when I picked the exhaust up from the courier, I thought they had sent me box filled with just packing. I was expecting something a bit heavier.

i remember weighing mine and it was a few kilos lighter. Shame i can't find the exact figures,

Heres a link to an informative topic on the jardine exhaust

I have a Lunchbox filter and V&H exhaust and +6* timing and originally ran the exact same jets as you have. The bike ran good but got part throttle surging so I decided to dyno test it with an o2 probe in the exhaust. I found out that I was running 16:1 afr and only made 1.5whp over stock. After 12 dyno runs and many jets later I got it down to a 12.5ish:1 afr and 5whp over stock. I ended up needing 20 62.5 155 jet with 1 washer under the needle and 3.75 turns out on the idle mix screw.

I dont know what K&N filter you have (stock or lunchbox) but if its a lunch Id think your running lean, if its a stock it could be rich as you suspect, especially if you have the restricter installed. also altitude and temp. will change the necessary jets sizes, i did my dyno runs on an 80 degree day in columbus ohio elevation ~780ft above sea level.

FYI the dyno testing showed that just +5* more timing gave 2whp where as the expensive exhaust, intake, and carb tuning gave a total of 3whp. also if you install 1 heat range colder plugs (as i later did) you can give at least 1 more degree of timing, and STILL run regular gas! I am going to do some more testing with mid-grade (89 octane) and more timing to see if I can eek a few more ponies out of this little motor.

Running the K&N stock replacement filter, no restrictor. The Needle was raised one position. Seems roughly equivalent to adding one washer.
As far as temp goes its in low to mid 30s(90-95F or so) ridiculous high humidity.

Haven't messed with the timing at all yet.

Australia is ~1200 ft elevation avarage and its hotter than when i did my testing so you could be way too rich. if it revs better/higher at night (when its cooler) than that would confirm the rich theory.
I wish it was 90-95 here, its 18F out. I farkin hate winter  >:(

I'm around sea level-ish, in Darwin. At night no idea if it would rev better, it doesn't get a lot  cooler in darwin overnight unfortunately (down to about 77F so I suppose that mght make a bit of difference).

Unfortunately I'm down in tassie for the next 2 1/2 weeks so can't test it out or make any changes for a while.
