As far as cutting a chain, you can just use a grinder to the heads of one of the pins, or any part of the chain really if you have no intention of saving it.

Otherwise one of the ones you posted should be fine for putting a chain back on. I think my chain just has a masterlink in it.

Canonball

yeah i used an angle grinder and just cut my old chain in half, took about a minute to cut through, new chain had a master link.

I have the first one you linked to.

I never used it to break the old chain.  I have a rotary tool for that.  Plus, it's always fun to make a massive amount of sparks!

I have used it to rivet in a new chain.  I had to use a wrench instead of the T handle to get more leverage though.  Other than that, it did it's job and the chain is still on with no problems.

How can you use a rotary tool to put a pin into chain?

harbor freight has a chain riveter tool for less than 10 bucks   i have one  never used it but looks to be decent for the money

Is the Harbor Freight one just a chain breaker or can it rivet on a new master link too?

it can push the pin back into the chain too.  I havent actually used it. but I will next time I get a new chain

I just went out and played with mine on an old dirtbike chain I had.  if using a new rivet style master link, it will work

So won't work on a chain without master link?

BaltimoreGS

As long as it is a 520 size, 110 link chain it should work.  That is a non-O ring chain though, I would spend a little more money on an O-ring or X-ring chain if you plan to keep the bike a while.  Also I don't think that chain includes a new master link.

it will, but you will need either a clip style master link, or a new rivet style master link to put the chain back together.  rivet style master links arent re-usable afaik
