Can anyone suggest some nice after market pegs that don't cost an arm & leg! I don't like the rubber ones but would like to spend no more than $75 tops. Is that possible.

El Cheapo strikes again :D

I think the only option under $75 are the GSXR pegs on ebay. They take about 30 seconds of grinding on each peg, and I think only cost about $15.

The second cheapest option is to find a pair of used CBR f2/f3 pegs, and make them fit on your bike. Other than that you're just gonna have to spend a couple hundred of aftermarket rearsets.

sv650 rear wheel
sv650 tail swap
gsxr pegs

I'm NOT in the market for pegs. I am quite happy with the stock pegs. But I am curious...

Why do such pegs cost $$$$$$$ while bicycle pegs cost $?

Bicycle pegs don't have mounting tals, a brake lever, shift left, heel guards and don't pivot upwards. They're just round steel with a hole drilled in the end. That being said, I don't think the prices are all that different between bicycle pegs and motorcycle foot pegs. The difference is when you're buying the whole rearset. That's more comparable to buying to buying bicycle pedals and cranks, and a nice set of bicycle cranks costs way more than a nice set of motorcycle rearsets.

Shimano Dura Ace road pedals, list $299, on sale now at performance bike for $239.

You can also buy gnarly black plastic pedals with soft steel axle for $6 apair at any local bike shop.

I couldn't afford a pair of Dura Ace pedals when I was looking to replace the GS500 footpegs, I had to settle for a pair of ultegras.

Then there is the common soft steel bolt.

Can be bent with two right angles, to drop down as far as desired.

Somewhere someone did this I bet.

Good to know I'm not the only one with some bicycling knowledge on this forum. Bleeding the brakes on my XC race bike takes longer the the GS, a welcome change I must admit.

I'm confused. Are you still talking about foot pegs?

When you change Motorcycle pegs you need to replace brake lever, shift left, and heel guards?

I don't know what some of those things mean, but I assumed you just needed to replace the foot peg alone, like mentioned here.

By the way, are these the same type of pegs shown in that write-up?

You do only have to replace the pegs, and it'll only cost you the $20 for the ebay pegs. When I was talking about replacing all the other stuff I was just referring to to the $200+ cost of buying rearsets when someone asked why bicycle pegs cost so much less than rearsets.

I see. Just read up on rearsets. Thanks for the explanation.

Ooh, no it's cool, I don't think I understood your question completely. By the way, that ebay link you posted are the pegs that will fit the GS.

Cool, thanks. I plan on getting buying them soon.

Does anyone have these pegs? They look smoother than the ones shown in GStwin Wiki. I'm wondering if they're slippery.

Do you ride in the rain? I think your feet would stick fine assuming the rubber on your shoes was dry, but they'd probably get a little slick when wet.

No, I don't, but I do wear slick shoes sometimes. I guess I'll just stick to my tennis shoes.

I posted the shimano dura ace ting to show bicycle parts are not cheaper than motorcycle parts if you go high end. A very nice weekend racing bicycle is $10,000,  if you go for modern plastic fancy name brand with fancy parts.

More like $3,000 if you go lugged steel frame and sensible parts. Then there are the $1,200 equivalents to GSF- Surly.

As to my GSF, I got my extra foot peg assemblies, left and right, plus extra shift lever, from Ebay a couple days ago. Will modify it to take a lower peg, and bolt it all right on. Cost about 45 shipped. Keeping original just in case. Not sure exactly what next step in that project is. Likely buy Gixxer pegs. M

Where are you shopping for your bicycles?! You can get a very nice aluminum or full carbon frame, full carbon fork, and full dura ace with nice wheels off the shelf for $3000 or a little more. Then the only things you'd have to upgrade if you want to spend more are things like pedals, seat, post, stem, and then cables and bar tape if you really want to get picky. It's definitely possible to build a $10k bicycle, but it's gonna be a bit nicer than a "nice weekend racing bicycle". Even 105 is considered "racing level" as far as groups go, even if it's not that flashy. My friend that worked at cannondale and had nothing but top of the line parts packed in his living room still rode on bikes that were only worth about $7k.
