I have been using A123 cells from Dewalt Battery packs in my RC crawlers for the last year and they are incredible batteries.  One of the guys on SVRider has done what I do but bigger and for a motorcycle.  This greatly interests me as I have limited to no room for a regular battery.  In the end I want a small, sealed battery that I can mount in any configuration.  This may be it?!

The mascot of the GS500.. The creature that's got the biggest ugliest a$$ of them all.
A wombat. It's got a big ugly a$$ too.

Here's another one that's popular with the racing crowd.

Price though.  The DeWalt is around $60.

Anyone have any thoughts or know about the limitations of the pack and what a GS charging system would do to the pack?  Would it handle it?

Any EE majors on here?

Street use with track intentions for fun some day.

I guess there is not much response and I am not surprised.  Seems to me that unless you can buy something now a days that is "confirmed" to work or "made" for a specific thing, e.g. GS500, that no one will try.  I am thinking I will just try it and see.  If anything I can sell the sells to my RC buddies as they are highly coveted in the crawling world.

I just found it really interesting and thought others might as well.  The search for a smaller battery afflicts only those who modify bikes I guess?!  I know dirt riders use these as well because my buddy has seen them at the track.

It sounds like a few of the SV guys have tried it and it works fine. I think you're set on this.

My concern would have been reaching cranking amperage and charging. Doesn't sound like either is an issue.

Hey guys.

I've got 20 a123 cells, some shrink wrap, cable, battery bars, a balance charger and stuff on order and am planning to do up an 8 cell for the GS.
Will keep you updated.
