I know how to lap valve ive done it before on other engines, but even with using the search I cant find anywhere on how to remove the valves from the GS. Has anyone had any success with getting them out without using a special tool?  Im not strong enough to get the spring compressed enough to get the 2 locking peices out. also pics would be greatly appreciated.

you have to use a spring compressor that looks kinda like a C clamp but one end has a hole so the locks can be removed.

yea i was askin if anyone had done it without a special tool though. But a regular spring compresser wouldnt work anyway cause it has to be able to go down in the tube that the shims fit into.  I want to use a regular C clamp and a ________ to wear I can still grab the locking tabs that hold it.

Won't work for getting them back in but you can get the valves out with a socket and a hammer.  Find a socket that fits in the valve bucket and give it a couple of whacks with a hammer and the retainers should pop off the valve.

Hi there,
I have a valve spring compressor from when I used to work in a Honda motorcycle dealership.
I'll dig it out and look to see if it would fit our GS500 heads.
If so, if you want to pay for shipping to you and back to me, you can borrow it.
It's not something I use at all, but I keep it around in case I ever need it again.
:)
Let me know,

I had seen it, but found it with search:  "spring compressor"
2nd hit, I believe.
