How to hotwire a GS?

I'm looking at a GS parts bike for sale but it has no key and the guy selling it says he doesn't know if it starts.

He bought it as a parts bike last year and took the headlight and exhaust but never attempted to get it running.

Its a 94 but it only has 8000 miles.

Anyway, if someone knows a quick way to try to start it with no key please let me know. (via PM if you wish)

I was wondering (if the seller is ok with it) if you could jam a flat head screw driver in the ignition and turn it with some vise grips?

gregvhen

just cut the wires leading to the ignition and connect the colors with each other lol

I usually feel like knocking a guy out and just stealing his key is much easier than coming on here and fabricating a long story about why you need to know how to hot wire a bike.  :flipoff:

Pull your ignition off and plug it into his wiring harness.

Yah I think I could probably figure it out with some trial and error if I had time to mess with it.

I was hoping someone would be able to give specific instructions and maybe the seller will let me try it.

well he is bigger than me, plus this way he wont get a good look at my face to describe to a sketch artist.

either use flatblade screwdriver  and twist it really hard with a pair of vicegrips, take your ignition with you and plug it into his wiring, or cut the wires, and twist them all together.  bear in mind, if it does start, he will prolly want more for it.

Even if it doesn't start you can still do a compression test.  Not sure if the owner would go for this:  http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=50948.msg576681#msg576681

Is this pre-hammer attack or after? I'd assume you need the ignition on to do the compression test, unless you're just going to start running with the bike and dump the clutch.

Hotwiring a GS5 is not hard, find the connector plug from the ignition switch, there are 4 wires in it. Then short the **** with the***** and the ****with the ******  :thumb:

Seriously though, if yout cant work it out from the schematic on the Wiki PM me and I will tell you what to do. I dont really want to tell the world how its done but it isnt difficult  :dunno_black:

Id use the using your lock and harness , otherwise once i lost my keys , i screwed a screw into the barrel used a claw hammer to rip the barrel out , and used a flat head screw driver to turn it . took 20 seconds .and has the advantage of unlocking the steering lock . *Dont Be Naughty!

if I'm not mistaken, you can pop the rotating assembly that has the electrical connections off the bottom of the ignition switch with just one screw if you're careful, then just rotate i with a screwdriver.   be aware this wont unlock the steering lock.     now this is simply assuming you're going for a legit bike with no keys an not to actually steal someone else's bike.

if you ARE indeed stealing smeones bike,  I hope karma hits you with a big truck.

it'd make sense to use your ignition if you can take that with you, less damage and destruction that would make the bike appear stolen to potential buyers.
looking for a new vehicle again.

Lol no I'm not stealing anyone's bike, If I were going to do that I would just get a van and load it up.

Thanks for the tips I will ask the guy which method he prefers.

my plan is to keep all the parts that are better than the ones on my bike and sell the rest.

If the motor is good then I know I will make my money back but if not then I don't want it.
