Ive been looking at doing a tail conversion on my 05 gs500f.  What tail have you installed (with pics if you have them )  And what would you estimate your total cost of your conversion including seats and anything else you bought.

I'm looking for the same thing.  Check out Customfighters.com  I'm gonna do an R1 or R6 I think.  Just gotta know how to weld and the sky's the limit.  Cost is around $300 for good parts.

The mascot of the GS500.. The creature that's got the biggest ugliest a$$ of them all.
A wombat. It's got a big ugly a$$ too.

Got damn son! How big is that rear tire!?  Looks huge!  Oh, and why does every do the monster swap?

O.C.D.

Far as I know I am the only one who has actually used a Ducati frame?!  If I am wrong then...............

Ducati Monster seat is an almost match for the newer style tank - makes it easy to swap.

I dont think you should do my conversion, it's not 'pretty'.

Like i said, its not 'pretty' but it does look cool. I've had a few people ask me what model Buell it is, haha.
As for cost, $15 because i used gutter mesh to make the rear end. Im re-making it today using the sides of my old washing machine. I'd go with the monster look or the R1 look. O.C.D has done a great job with the monster.

Your right, its not pretty.  In my opinion.  But thats not the point is it?  Its your bike, its original, and you are constantly improving.  Beats the hell out of a guy that buys a brand new stripped bike and calls it a fighter.  Be proud that your sh*t is original.  Theres plenty of people that'll slam you on these sites and they've prolly never had so much as an original fart.  Don't slam your self bro.

As for the monster, over at Customfighters.com theres a ton of them.  Most common mod is to take all the plastic off the tail, and just stick on the monster seat.  Not knocking your bike mind you.  I'm about to do a tail swap and I was just curious why monster.

IMHO, the monster looks the best on the GS hands down. I like cafe style seats so it's been hard to find something that looks decent.
This is the old cb400f cruisin' the viaduct

MXFun86

I like what he's done but I keep hearing that they're two seaters and you can buy a cowl for the rear seat.  Wheres the 2nd seat!?  Lol, it looks like a really nice single to me.

MXFun86

Some guy named Fry on here did the monster seat thing w/ no plastic.  Google gs500 streetfighter and the first picture that comes up is his bike.

idoes anyone else think its funny i made this post OCT 08 and had no replys until feb 2010 and then it blows up.  I know how to weld been welding about 10 yrs or so but im not cutting my sub frame off im just going to live with the tail on this bike and buy another bike down the road. The tire size on the huge tire is a 160 same size im running on my bike.

The tire looks big cause of where I took the pic - from behind.

The Duc seat has the cowl and yes there is a 2up seat under there.  I have sat on it with the wife and her butt almost hangs over the edge.  She is little though at 110 pounds so I cannot imagine a bigger lady fitting?!

No one has a tail like mine. Custom solo that blends seamlessly to the tank (at least i think so).I made mine out of fiberglass and padded the seat with closed cell 1" neoprene. I used two round lights i scored off e-bay for the brake lights. I used the stock seat locking mechanism and molded it into the glass, so it just clicks in and pulls off with the pull of a hidden cable routed under the tail. Also just finished mock up of the brackets for my new Vortex rearsets.

Fiberglass - $70
Seat foam - $18
Taillights - $20
Steel flat bar - $ 6 ( for seat lock )

I was going to do copies in glass and carbon, but since i have finished my friend that has access to a prosthetics lab that works in carbon fiber has moved away, and im getting hit with all sorts of stuff to do around the house. Maybe when it warms up it try to make my own mold.

And a pic of the rearsets mounted up

Grumble : Grumble . . . . . . .
