Can I feel stupid now?

Okay so finally I figured out why my bike was idling at 8 grand.  This is after I bought a new fuel petcock replaced all the fuel lines, new choke cable and even took the carbs back apart to make sure I did everything right.

What it boiled down to was the throttle cable was in a little bit of bind and not letting the throttle close all the way to an idle.  Once I fixed that it idles just fine, thank you very much.

I feel like an idiot missing the obvious.

Good job posting what it was!  I'm on page 350 in the forums and see so many posts where people don't even bother to post what the problem ended up being or what happened.

Just saw this. The upside is that you will NEVER do that again (or at least by confused by it). Best way to learn is by doing something wrong the first time and seeing exactly why it's wrong.

I wouldn't let it bother you too much...I think we have all pulled a few BIG HAIRY STUPID'S in our time  ...as long as you learn from it, it's all good 

Think about it...someone had to come up with the KISS theory (keep it simple stupid)...and I would imagine they had their own list of "special moments"...

Tipping the handle bar left to right should nto change the idle. If it does, choke or throttle cable is binding.
Anyway good you figured it out.

The binding was in the throttle grip itself.  I had changed the bars out and when I put the throttle cable back on I managed to get it in a bind.  All it took was just a minute to take it apart and put it back together.

I was just having the same problem with my choke cable, every time i turned to the right the bike would rev a little. While i was in there I readjusted my throttle cable position so that there is absolutely no slack and it makes a world of difference as far as throttle control.

Just a side note.  I bought a Joe Rocket Metor jacket and it is outstanding.  No air leakage and actually pretty comfortable.

I've pulled my bike and my hair apart a few too many times and it always seems to be for a dumb lil fix, but its given me a better understanding of the bike and ore confidence when working on it.

LOL "ready for anything"  To me she looks like a streetfighter that has been in a couple of fights, but that is okay.  I'm riding and that is what counts.
