It is sunny out here today in Colorado. And it might be a long spin. I was wondering what sorts of rpms I should be hitting before shifting up.

Sanjeev,

See my post here http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=51524.0 In it I link to my latest video - directly linked here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tg6jTCuOe8Q

If you watch it you'll see, at the start I take it up to 9k before shifting. Later, around 5 min in, you'll see I change a few times around 5.5k and I go to around 10k.

For just general riding. Nothing too hair raising. Changing around 5.5k is fine. Just make sure not to ride in 6th gear with the revs below 4k otherwise you start to lug the engine. Brief visits Slightly below 4k in 4th gear are fine.

For medium acceleration, change around 6.5 to 7.

For faster acceleration, take it to around 9k.

But do know, how fast you get to each change also adds/detracts from how fast you reach top speed. In the vid when I take it to 9k a few times I am accelerating between medium and fast because I am not getting there as fast as I could. Because there was no point to.

Most of my highway merging and accelerating and overtaking even, I can achieve below 9k. The video shows an exception where I was running out of overtaking lane (ok, I actually ran out) so wanted to execute the overtake and then reduce speed - hence once complete I come off the throttle and also change up gear.

Anyway. To recap...

General riding: 5.5 to 6k
Medium acceleration: 6.5 to 7k
Faster Acceleration: 9k

If your bike is new, keep it below 5.5k until the first service. Then keep it below 8k until the 2nd service.

Hope this helps

Thanks Mike. That helps. I am amazed at how active this forum is!

I am in Golden, Colorado. It seems a little doubtful if at all the sun will be the brightest today. Hope it does by lunch time!
