I never said a rare bike. Ok a mid 70's 500cc below Honda isnt exotic and unique but come on, How many guys do you see crusin around on a 74 CB350? And I'm not looking to completely restore a bike to mint condtion to be put in shows or something, not lookin to sell it for a profit. I just want something a lil different that doesnt look like anything made today. 1000cc is too much, limited budget here the less the CC's the better. Something common is just fine, easier too get parts all the better. But I appreciate all the suggestions i'm researching everyone of them, I"m learning a ass load of stuff.
thanks again

Plus, think a 2 stroke would be a better bet. Reliablity is important...

Yamaha XZ550 Visions, '82-'83, liquid-cooled v-twin with shaft drive.

I would also second that BMW suggestion, a freind loaned me a '76 R90 and I think it was an 'S' model, too! It was SWEET!! Very smooth, and you really had to use countersteering because of the narrow handlebars! What a neat, vintage experience!

Raber's also deals with new Norton parts, I used pull orders for customers and ship nationally, but they can be expensive. But at least the parts are readily available, unlike the Triumphs.
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?
