For what its worth, my '06 headlight goes out when I hit the starter button (good battery, has always done this). I think its designed to do that to unload the battery while starting.

You have an Australian or European market bike?  Would be curious to hear from others with these to see if theirs does this too.  It's not in the wiring diagrams I've seen, maybe a previous owner added it?

I think ohgood has added a relay to do this, and I'm thinking about doing it too.

it would make winter start-ups a lot easier.
I wonder why it is NOT a stock feature on all VEHICLES that use battery to start.  :dunno_white:

ok so maybe my battery is bad So I'm getting a new one tomorrow. Would a bad battery also cause my turn signals in the front to not work properly and my highbeams to not come on?

I think I might have found my problem the only thing is I don't really know how to address it. My left hand switch is messed up. my signals if I push it to the left both in front flash but only the one in the rear flashes If i push it the other way nothing happens I opened it up and looked and everything thing looks ok in there. I don't want to run out and buy another one but yea any ideas on how to test the stuff?

Do you have a meter or test light?

If so, disconnect the 3 wires coming from the turn signal switch.  Light green, light blue, black.  Flip the turn switch to the left, check for continuity between light blue and black.  There should not be continuity between light blue and light green, nor between light green and black.  Then flip the turn switch to the right.  Check for continuity between light blue and light green.  There should not be continuity between light blue and black, nor between light green and black.

If you don't have a meter or test light....  Get one.

Paulcet,

I'm in Aust. Bought the bike new and when I hit the starter the headlight dims right down. Stays constant when I rev. Has done this from new. I never put the battery on charge. Never had trouble starting. And so far have almost 18,000 on the bike.

It very well could be part of the Australian Standards the bike has to conform to.
