sequential integrated tailight

i was going to order an integrated taillight for my '06 GS500F and when i was searching around and found out that they make sequential integrated taillights for the GS.  i found it on star cycle :

i havent been able to find any topics with anyone saying that they have one or have looked in to them and i was just curious if anyone does have one or what your thoughts on them are? i think they look kinda cool but im in a dilemma now between just a regular integrated or sequential taillight.

I'm torn on the integrated tail lights.  They really give the bike a clean look in the rear.  My problem with them is the average driver is a moron.  A friend of mine had one in his bike for about a week.  After 2 very close calls with cars nearly rear ending him he put the bike back to stock.  The lights he had blinked red on which ever way he was turning.  Most non-motorcyclist don't seem to register in their brain that the blinking light is a turn signal.  The one in your link may be more effective since the turn signal is amber...

Call me booooring, but I like stock, DOT legal signals, for pretty much the reason Jessie mentions, plus the fact that non-DOT signals are basically a ticket waiting to happen anytime a cop wants to hassle you. Before a driver behind you figures out that the funny thing going on in the middle of your bike is supposed to be a turn signal (say left) they may have already pulled out to the left to pass you - crunch.

I'm also not all that into the claims that these look better, but that's obviously personal taste and mine is not yours, nor should it be.

If you like the integrated signal, I would say go with it.  I agree that the integrated signals look hundreds of times better than the bug antennas that the gs500 tries to pass off as stock turn signals.  Regardless of the lack of DOT approval, I seriously doubt that you will ever be hassled by a police officer because of them.  I doubt the DMV would even notice the difference when getting the bike inspected for registration.  I've seen plenty of choppers on the road that didn't even have working signals (just used hand signals).

I have an integrated taillight on my bike but not a sequential one.  I think the sequential one would only make it more noticeable than a standard integrated taillight.  I would opt for the clear lens though as getting a smoke lens in my opinion is just asking for people to not be able to see it.

I have never had any problems with getting the bike inspected either with the DMV for having non DOT lights on the GS.  They seem to be alot more leniant with what they pass on a motorcycle than a car.

ya i meant to post the link to the clear one oops.  I am kind of leaning towards the sequential taillight now, i've seen a couple youtube videos and they (to me) seem like they would grab a drivers attention much more than the normal integrated or even stock setup...but maybe thats because I'm a motorcyclist.

when you are pressing the brake it does that sequential red flash where it goes sequentially red on both sides, from about 0:06-0:08 on the video, and not pressing the brake is when the whole thing is red...it looks like it gets brighter when the whole taillight is red but i think it is just the camera adjusting to the light.  the braking light will certainly grab attention of the drivers behind you i just hope it wouldnt be the wrong kind of attention...like if they see it and kinda get fixated on it thinking "WTF?" and "ooooh pretty lights" (there are some pretty simple minded drivers) and you get rear ended..that would be a slight downfall in the taillight.

I just stumbled upon your topic and was wondering if you ended up getting the sequential tail light.  And if so how do you like it.  It looks just like I was looking for.

I have the regular clear alternatives integrated taillight.  The don't make a sequential one for the GS500 AFAIK.  I'm really happy with it.

Mine came in today so I'll try to get it installed this weekend.  The shipping invoice and the reciept say that it's sequential however the box never mentions the word Sequential.  So we'll see.  Either way I can now get rid of the stock signals!

On the Gs I had a 9" led strip right over the top of the license plate that was lit when braking. I just did a short stalk mod on the stock signals, got them several inches shorter and it looked way better while still serving their purpose.

So what, does that serve as a type of integrated fender eliminator and retain the stock tail light?

It's a complete integrated led and plate mount with led plate lights. I'm doing away with the whole fender and tail light and installing this. It fits nice and I may do a little work to mold the rear so that you would see just the lenses. I liked it for the 2 chambers. You don't get the glow across the whole thing, just the light that's working. And I've got a nice solid plate mount.

So I got my SEQUENTIAL integrated tail light from clear alternatives today (First Link in the thread) even though the box said nothing about it being sequential it is.  It was easy as plug and play to mount. Just remove the bulbs from the stock tail light and plug the new LED board into one of the ballasts and screw the lens cover back on.  I was stumped for a little while trying to wire the turn signals up.  I even had to look at the directions.  As it turns out the tail is supposed to only have a single wire for the left signal and a single wire for the right signal.  (Did not know that) you have to create a loop with the wires from the bike, connected to the resistor, connected to the tail light.  Will try to do this tomorrow as it was cold in the garage and well I wanted to go inside.  But anyway It works great (break lights only so far) and I love the look without the stock signals.

My only fear is that the License plate is not very well lit (if at all).  I know that when I lived in St. Louis I was pulled over at least twice in my car because one of the two lights lighting up my plate was out.
